When I was a young little girl, my life was far from perfect, and every door opened up to yet another struggle. However, no matter how many times I felt as if things couldn’t get any worse, my Aunt Becky would come through and make it all better. Now, Aunt Becky isn’t just an inspiration to me, but too many others as well, but I won’t tell the story backwards. Four years ago I lost a very special person in my life from cancer. My grandpa's death had a huge impact on my life along with my other family members. My grandpa was my biggest fan and probably the Wisconsin Badger's as well. Every game I could look into the stands and he would be there. Since he has passed, before every basketball game I think of him saying "Shoot a couple 3's for me tonight". I used this as an inspiration to do my best in every play of the game. My grandpa helped me set personal goals such as making fifty three's in a season, which I accomplished my last game of my junior year.

My grandmother has a certain look in her eyes when something is troubling her: she stares off in a random direction with a wistful, slightly bemused expression on her face, as if she sees something the rest of us can’t see, knows something that we don’t know. It is in these moments, and these moments alone, that she seems distant from us, like a quiet observer watching from afar, her body present but her mind and heart in a place only she can visit. You are worthy, very worthy and you will keep thriving to reach those dreams no matter what happens.” These words of advice from my maternal grandmother filtered through my mind as I watched her lay in a casket, three days after having a heart attack. The realization I felt seeing her lifeless, my beautiful, fun-loving, blunt grandmother now lifeless, crushed me emotionally. She was the one I ran to when bad things happened. She gave me amazing advice and at that moment I couldn’t get advice on how to cope from the only person I wanted it from. All I could do was watch as people, one by one, stood in front of her, cried, and walk up to my mother and I to give their condolences.
More than 5 years ago, I found myself in the exact same position that Susan Wolf had found herself in with her father. In my case, it was the end of life care for an elderly aunt who had no other family and as such, became a part of mine. She was my ward in a way, fully reliant and dependent on me in so many ways due to her advanced age. I thought that she was a very healthy person and could possibly go on living forever since she was under constant medical care. But all the medical care that the doctors could provide for her could not remove the nagging pains that seemed to be ravaging her fast aging body.

Patients who get the cancer removed and take care of themselves after, for example, by exercising and eating healthy, will live longer. There are many risks that increase the likelihood of developing breast cancer, for instance, age, family history, and race. A women who made history with breast cancer was Betty Ford, Betty was one of the first lady’s to speak openly about her disease. Betty encouraged women who have been affected with the disease to go to their doctor as soon as possible and told women who had shared that they didn’t have breast cancer to do self breast exams regularly and get mammograms. A malignant tumor is a group of cancer cells that can grow into (invade) surrounding tissues or spread (metastasize) to distant areas of the body. One battle that is not easy to fight, but winning the battle is worth it all is breast cancer. The reason I chose to write about breast cancer is because my aunt who means a lot to me was diagnosed with it a few years ago. Many people hear and discuss about breast, but they do not what it means and why it is important. When a tumor that is malignant is found in the cells in the breast and its spreads through the surrounding tissues in the breast is known as breast cancer. Most women are not usually alert if they have the disease because they do not know how to check for lumps in their breasts. Some do not even know the common symptoms for breast cancer. Most women do not know that can check for lumps in their breast by themselves by doing a self-examination. In the self-examination, the woman can wait until they are in the shower or while they are lying down. They can take three fingers and move it in a circular motion, gently around the breast and feel for lumps and knots. Women can squeeze each nipple lightly to make sure there is no discharge coming out during the self-examination. However, majority of women do have lumps in their breast, but it is normal.
