HALO:The Flood
Today I am going to tell you about a great book I read lately. It is called HALO:The Flood. The Flood is based on the award-winning Xbox game, Halo. This book was interesting because it tells the story through several different perspectives. Some of the perspectives include: the super-soldier, Master Chief, an alien, another alien, a sergeant, and a few soldiers. Although some new character perspectives are introduced in some chapters, the characters die later in the chapter.
The story opens with the marines aboard their battle cruiser, The Pillar of Autumn. Suddenly, an alarm sounds because an alien race, known as the Covenant, has invaded the ship. Then the marines open up a cryo-tube. [a tube one can sleep frozen in] Inside the tube is the genetically enhanced super-soldier, known as the Master Chief. The Chief then defeats the aliens aboard the ship. After the invasion, the marines discover the ancient ring-world, called Halo. They then decide to search for weapons and other supplies on Halo. Unfortunately, the Covenant is also searching for something: Halo’s control room, which can activate a weapon capable of wiping the universe clean of all life.
When the marines crash land on Halo, they discover a deadly parasite called Flood living under the surface of the ring. But instead of being carried by bacteria, it is carried by bulbous, blob-like things. When a living organism [including the Covenant] gets infected by it, they quickly start to mutate into rotting, deadlier versions of their former selves. The entire human exploration squad, including their captain, Captain Keyes, gets infected, and mutate into Flood combat forms. All except for, that is, Captain Keyes, who mutates into a huge, stationary Flood form, and later dies. When the rest of the marines lose contact of Captain Keyes and his crew, they suspect something is wrong and send the Chief off to investigate.
Like the exploration squad, he soon encounters the Flood. After dispatching the first wave, he then fights his way through Halo to get to its control room so he can disable Halo. After doing that, he finds and fights his way through the wreck of The Pillar of Autumn so he can detonate its engines and destroy Halo for good.
When the Chief gets to the engine room, he cracks open the opening to the ship’s fusion core. After he drops a grenade down the opening and disrupts the fusion core, he has 15 short minutes to get off Halo before it explodes.

Halo: Ghosts of Onyx begins in the year 2531 with a raid on an Insurrectionist base by the SPARTAN-II Blue Team. Their goal was to recover stolen FERNIS nuclear warheads, but were captured by rebel general Howard Graves; a former UNSC Marine who defected to the Insurrectionists. However, Spartan Kurt-051 manages to slip away from the team before they are captured, and helps the rest of Blue team escape Insurrectionist capture. One month after the raid, Blue Team is put on a mission to investigate a ruptured Shaw-Fujikawa Translight Engine. Kurt is sent ahead to scout it out, but as he gets closer to the engine, his equipment begins to malfunction. Eventually, the thruster pack he’s using malfunctions and Kurt is sent spiraling out into space without coms. Kurt is then recovered by ONI and wakes up a month later to be briefed of the SPARTAN-III program by Vice Admiral Margaret Orlenda Parangosky, Rear Admiral Ned Rich, Captain Aaron G. Gibson, and Colonel James Ackerson aboard the UNSC Point of No Return. Kurt is then promoted to Lieutenant, Junior Grade and sent to Onyx to reduce 497 volunteers to 300 trainees. Kurt test’s the candidates’ want for revenge against the alien juggernaut that destroyed their homes and families by making them perform a midnight high-altitude jump out of Pelican dropships. Any child who didn’t jump would lose their chance to be Spartans, and any child who jumped kept that chance. Even with the advanced training and Semi-powered Infiltration Armor (SPI), all 300 Spartans would die in Operation: PROMETHEUS. Kurt returns to the Point of No Return to be informed of the success of Alpha Company and to begin training Beta Company. Kurt learns that all of Alpha Company was wiped out in Operation: PROMETHEUS a...
The presentation and use of military personnel in the “Forever War” by Joe Haldeman and “Halo: The Fall of Reach” by Eric Nylund illustrate how science fiction depicts these individuals as disposable and replaceable. The negative treatment of soldiers can result in various mental problems and unnatural relationships if conditions remain the same. Although the characters in these stories are fictional, the mistreatment of military personnel can lead to future problems when the time comes for them to return to civilian life.

It was August 8th of 2013 when my dad got a call from my Aunt Theresa. She urged him to come over to her house because she had devastating news. The car ride to her house was quiet. The weather was gloomy, the sky was filled with dark cumulus clouds. When we pulled up to my Aunt’s house, the adults were organized into a small circle. My uncles were supporting my grandma, however, I thought nothing of it. My parents had told me to go inside because they had a matter to attend to. I went inside to hang out with my cousins. I saw them a couple days before, but the feeling of happiness never subsides when I see them.
The two stories closely parallel each other, though Gilgamesh was written down before 2000 BCE and the version in Genesis was compiled ca. 400 BCE. Biblical writers probably knew of the much older myth but revised it so that it fit with their own history and worldview. They intended it to fit with their own mythology. Despite the many similarities between the two stories, this difference in intention is revealed in a number of motifs that distinguish the biblical story from the ancient myth:
Stories of a primeval flood exist in all parts of the world, virtually every branch of the human race has traditions of a Great Flood that destroyed all of mankind, except one family.
The story of the great flood is probably the most popular story that has survived for thousands of years and is still being retold today. It is most commonly related within the context of Judeo-Christian tradition. In the Holy Bible, the book of Genesis uses the flood as a symbol of God's wrath as well as His hope that the human race can maintain peace and achieve everlasting salvation. The tale of Noah's Ark begins with God's expression of dismay as to the degenerate state of the human race at the time. People were behaving wickedly and sinfully and God decided that a genetic cleansing was necessary. He spared only Noah and his family, along with two of every type of animal; one male and one female. The other most popular flood story is found in the Epic of Gilgamish. In this text, the gods have decided to destroy everything on earth by creating a great flood. The only survivor is a man named Utnapishtim, spared because he is the god Ea's favorite human.
Writing is a tool that is universally known and used as a primary source of communication. It is a process that is taught, practiced, and perfected throughout the course of one’s life. There are many ways of how one can start writing any given essay thru plainly organizing his or hers thoughts. Great examples are using free write, bullet points, Venn diagram and so on. The method I use which is really helpful is quite different. Let’s say that I was to write a persuasive essay, before writing anything I would look through my folders until I have found a graded persuasive essay. Noah’s Ark is the story of a man who builds a boat for animals and his family to escape a fatal flood. The flood was caused by God because he was dismayed by the evilness of humans. In the end, Noah, most of the animals and his family survived and God swore that he would never destroy humankind again. The Flood of Gilgamesh is a story in which the gods are infuriated by the obnoxious behavior of humans, so Utnapishtim builds a boat to save his family and animals from a destructive flood. They survived and the Gods gave Utnapishtim immortality thanking him for his actions and apologized for destroying humankind.
