The adaptation that occurs in the majority of the illness narratives is physical, social and mental. Garcia professes that most heroin addicts are “sentenced to detoxification [as] the first official step in a longer process of drug recovery” (2010, 2). Despite the diversity of these individuals’ personal histories, they are repressed from their distinct experiences, that most likely have contributed to their addiction, and forced to comply to similar legal rulings headed by a dominant class. The “Twelve Step Model” defines the length of the recovery process, thus the heroin addicts are required to leave their place of residence and attend Nuevo Dia for a time period that is based on this norm. In the social context, patients are assigned to new living arrangements in the detox center, hence being in the presence of other addicts who are also on the road to recovery. This social environment is not very beneficial for those who are adamant to get clean; the presence of patients in the same clinic, who are in worse conditions, is a “reminder of [their] needs” to revert back to drug use (Garcia 2010, 67). The vicious cycle of recovery and relapse is an outcome of the clinic’s social circumstances, which gives the chronology of addiction a valid stance in society. Incidentally, the mental aspect of conformity is
In taking the name Société des observateurs de l’homme, and the ancient motto ‘Gnothi seauton’, Know thyself, the society has devoted itself to the science of man, in his physical, moral and intellectual existence; it has called to its observations the true friends of philosophy and moral reality, the deep metaphysician, the practical doctor, the historian, the traveller, the student of the nature of language, the educationalist. In this way, man, followed and compared in the different scenes of life, will become the subject of research the more useful as it is free from passion, prejudice and excessive systematization.
There he stands atop the stairs of the Lincoln Memorial, in the nations’ capital, at a podium, speaking to the world. The crowds faces full of hope. Ears opened wide and clear, for the Dr. is speaking today. He is speaking from the heart and telling the nation that he has a “DREAM.” Dr. King had a dream and as most people think that it is geared towards blacks and whites, it’s not. Dr. King wanted equality between everybody. He wanted freedom from racism and prejudice throughout the nation. He was very good in getting the emotional perspective of persuasion across to his audience. King was a very inspirational man; his words were so true and full of meaning. He spoke to everyone and got everybody involved. This is why people followed him and why I think this is the most persuasive piece we have read. He not only implies his wants but he carries along with him the wants and needs of every man or woman ever treated poorly because of the color of their skin or their beliefs. There is a certain unexplainable meaning and feeling when a man like King steps up in front of the world and says, “I have a Dream.”
If we look at sociology in general, it is a study of society and human behavior. However, to be able to understand it in deeper sense we need to understand humans itself and how they interact with one another in a crowd. This involves observing humans in a micro (individual itself) and a macro level (how an individual interacts with government, family and other social institutions. As we all know, the great sociologist, C. Wright Mills defined the term “Sociological Imagination” which helps us understand the connection between individual and sociological demographics along with the history and biography. Another famous sociologist named W. E. B. DuBois wrote a book “Souls of Black Folks” where he explained the struggles of black people in the United States during The Civil War. I believe that the concept of Sociological Imagination and Idea of Double Consciousness are very intertwined with each other and can be synced to explain many behaviors of our society.
Society is not consisted of innate behaviors, but instead learned interactions and knowledge through symbolic changes. Through these exchanges, habitus is formed. Habitus is the result of practiced exchanges that have been inadvertently taught through past exchanges of culture, language, and knowledge. One cannot escape the way the world imposes these practices, and the practices are constantly occurring and changing, reflecting society. The actions of society are in a way regular, normal, and regulated without any type of law and rules, and does not need to be explicitly stated. Sometimes, however, Habitus can be a calculated operation, in which a practice learned by another is now teaching another the normality and expectations of the culture.
Charles Duhigg’s The Power of Habit, acknowledges how habits control our daily lives in every decision we make. For Instance, an ambitious woman named Lisa Allen, has not always had a fruitful life. Previously, she had abused her body with harmful toxins such as tobacco and alcohol since the beginning of her teenage years. Carrying out these habits everyday resulted her into being unmotivated and unconfident. In fact, she never kept a job longer than a year and began to fall into major debt. “She needed a goal in her life, she thought. Something to work toward” (xii-xiv). It begins with the “three-step loop” a cue that triggers our brain to do the habit. Next a routine, a set of actions that are either physical or mental. Finally a reward of satisfaction that determines whether or not this habit will be continuous (19). Not all habits can be good, but this is where the golden rule applies. Duhigg explains that in order for you to change your habit “ you must keep the old cue, and deliver the old reward, but insert a new routine”(62). “However, simply understanding how habits work- learning the structure of the habit loop makes them easier to control”( 20). Reading The Power of Habit, helped me understand the process by which I made a positive change to fight procrastination.

The comparative method is a species that can be studied and compared to the search of understanding human behavior. The physiological outlook elucidate the performance of how the nervous system and hormones reacts to the body, what precedent of the transformations in the structure can affect one’s behavior, and how the brain operates. For example, when a cardiologist operate on someone’s heart. He has the expectation of extending that individual's life (Thomas Spray). Another comparative method utilized is the investigation of inheritance. This technique engages a species inheriting genes from its parents. For instance, when the offspring with dark skin complexion begat blue eyes this trait is hereditary. Each of these biological aspects consisting of the comparative, physiological and the genetic systems explicates human behavior. This dissertation will focus on the brain, the nervous system, and the ways in which these physiological mechanisms interrelate.

Habitus is defined as “A set of acquired dispositions of thought, behaviour and taste.” (Scott and Marshall, 2009). The concept was created by Pierre Bourdieu and was first used in his book Outline of Theory and Practice in 1977. His theory of habitus derives from the philosophy of Aristotle. Bourdieu looked at how society can influence a person’s self and whether certain aspects of society can be aesthetically seen on the individual. These choices are influenced by many factors.
During the summer before starting high school, many incoming Freshmen are hit with nerves. They’re nervous about the upperclassmen, how to fit in socially and, most importantly, the level of difficulty of the subjects in high school compared to middle school academics. Well here’s a newsflash – it’s different; it’s harder. In order to succeed academically, you have to study well. In order to study well, you have to build amazing study habits. In order to build amazing study habits, you have to read the rest of this and apply it to your life. Once all of that’s done, you will be a shoo in for top grades with low stress involved and be the “go to" person for classmates when it comes to A+ study tips.
