One of the most controversial topics of the year is the argument on guns and the government attempting to ban and control certain guns. This topic has always been in disagreement among the American public but has recently become much more popular after several large-scale shootings such as the infamous Sandy Hook. Despite gun control appearing to be the solution to these tragic events, controlling and banning guns will simply not work. Why will it not work and why is it so bad? Because it has not worked before, current gun control laws and attempted laws target the wrong guns, banning the targeted guns or any guns for that matter will not prevent mass shootings, and it infringes on our constitutional rights as Americans. Together, we will not only be addressing these issues, but we will provide well thought out answers to many arguments that pro-gun control advocates can retaliate with. The first and simplest way to show that gun control will not work is to look to the past. Usually, people learn from their past mistakes and from other’s past mistakes in history. Sadly, American society has clearly shown a lack of development in this topic. If we travel back roughly ten years from now, we will have entered a time of gun control that our current government is pushing to achieve once again. According to, The Assault Weapons Ban of 1994, or otherwise known as the Act of 1994 or The Crime Bill, was instituted in September 13th, 1994. The United States law prohibited or otherwise banned the production of semi-automatic firearms and ammunition feeding devices, more commonly known as magazines. This bill would later be ruled unconstitutional in 2004 during an era of right wing reign in the government. Perhaps eventually, statistics will shine through and after more trial and error, safer control such as background checks and mental stability checks will be implemented to help prevent these disasters.
