He describes that one obvious change would be to “mandate a criminal background check for all gun purchases” as it would obviously stop criminals from getting their hands on a weapon (Keefe). It takes certain smarts to live as a criminal; many criminals most likely have snuck their way out of the database and would therefore be able to b... ... middle of paper ... ...ideal that we would not be able to defend ourselves, is a terrible nightmare and almost a terrible reality. Legalizing gun control will only further the loss caused to our county through the many instances that have occurred in the past and recently. In response to this, I believe that we should keep our guns free and our lives safe. Works Cited Keefe, Patrick.
For example, gun control protects: law-abiding citizens, children, and any other type of citizen from other harmful citizens, such as criminals. It keeps guns out of criminal’s hands -- especially the mentally ill. Not only is there the fact that gun control will make it harder for criminals to achieve a gun, stricter background checks placed will help protect everyone. However, one of the most important reasons to implement gun control would be saving the lives of the thousands of people per year who are killed by handguns. How do you go about taking guns away if that is the solution, or what will the effects be of taking guns away from people who don’t use them for crime? The lack of information on this issue leads to an unequal view on gun control and can completely distort the ability of that individual to be able to take a rational stand on the issue. I believe that by being open to the facts of gun control that involves elimination weapons people will find that this type of gun control is not rational and therefore is not the answer for the gun control debate in our nation. What exactly is gun control? This question is where much of the misconception begins.

What kind of criminal is going to go running around with shotguns and rifles breaking into houses or killing young innocent victims? Criminals are going to do whatever they can to get their job done. At least banning handguns and assault weapons should decrease the rate of deaths from weapons in the United States. Military and police forces should be the only people that have possession of assault weapons. There is not a reason for anyone on the street to own an assault weapon.
With the rise in mass shootings, more Americans are choosing to obtain a permit for a concealed handgun. Unfortunately, most of these shootings are taking place in public buildings where people are banned from bringing their concealed weapons. If these types of bans do not stop criminals, then law-abiding citizens should not be denied the chance to protect themselves and others. There should not be any public building where a person that has legally obtained a concealed-carry permit can not be allowed to bring his or her weapon. Most employers do not want handguns on their premises, not even in the parking areas.
Often, horrible gun-related crimes are committed by people who do not value human life, which translates to mental issues. In these type cases, it makes no difference how many laws are on the books because if a mentally deranged person is determined to secure a gun to carry out his or her plan, a gun is what he or she will get. When individuals determine to use a weapon to commit a crime they will find a way to secure the weapon, whether legally or illegally. It brings to mind the adage, “Where there’s a will there’s a way.” Therefore, implementing stricter gun laws and reducing the number of gun permits issued would, for the most part, negatively affect the good, law-abiding citizens. It is this group that could fall prey to the criminal who is going to possess and use a weapon regardless what he or she has to do to get it.
