Did you know 46 people a day are killed in gun related violence? And that 55 people every day kill themselves with a firearm? With recent shootings, gun control has been a hot topic, and for good reason. There should be stricter gun control because the second amendment was meant for militias, they are dangerous and easily accessible and guns in homes lead to shootings, suicides and criminal activity.
First, The second amendment was meant for militias. For example, during the revolutionary war, militias needed weapons. We no longer live during a time of revolution, so the context is different (we no longer have to hunt for food, or participate in the militia). In addition, Gun control has been around for just as long as the second amendment.

In violent crimes committed from 2007 to 2011, 0.79% of victims protected themselves with firearms, or the threat of one. This shows that it is unlikely that a gun would be used for self defense. But, stricter gun control could also prevent suicides and homicides. From 1999 to 2013, 52% of suicides, were firearm suicides. If we had stricter gun control, we could likely cut the number of suicides in half. The #1 reason of homicides was also guns (from 1999 to 2013).
Some say, Education is needed, not gun control. However, the FBI found the presence of a gun makes the situation more likely to become violent. While some may think that “The only thing that think stop a gun, is a gun”, none of the mass shootings from 1982 to 2012 were stopped by an armed civilian. Also, 1.4 million legally owned guns have been stolen by criminals during robberies and home invasions. This shows that criminals are not going to listen to education.
Clearly, there needs to be stricter gun control because the second amendment was meant for militias, guns are dangerous and easily accessible, and guns in homes lead to shootings, suicides and criminal activity. Gun control is a topic that stirs a strong opinion from the general public. Gun control is the effort to regulate or control usage and sales of guns. The right to bear arms is granted to all Americans by the Second Amendment and many consider it essential to maintain order in the United States of America. Even though this was the Second Amendment right granted to citizens in the Bill of Rights, many Americans opt not to own a gun, and others would like for this right to be abolished altogether. Both sides of this issue have a good argument, but when further researched, there are many more details that come up explain why siding against gun control is a better conclusion for the United States and its people. Some may say gun control should be enforced because it will make the pubic a safer place to be and decrease gun violence. “An average of eight children and teens under the age of twenty are killed by guns every day" ("Brady Campaign to prevent Gun Violence", 2012). The United States' current president, Barack Obama, is currently working on enforcing and passing more laws and legislation to protect the families and the citizens of the United States. The successful enforcement of our current laws would be a major stride toward decreasing the amount of crimes committed with guns and the amount of criminals with gun possession. The most challenging element of the gun control debate is whether existing gun laws are adequate or whether more gun laws need to be created and enforced.

For a nation that prides ourselves on extraordinary security and unity, it is quite ironic that so many issues can cause such distress and uproar within communities. One such issue is gun control. As a white male in a middle-lower class family that has never owned a gun, I may be somewhat biased. Gun control is both a crime issue, as well as a safety issue. It can range from moderate to extreme. Gun control goes as back as the 17th century where Japan was using guns for war making as to current tragedies occurring in schools. Guns have never disappeared, they have only multiplied in numbers to numerous amount of guns, ranging from small to big. Gun control isn't only a problem but it can also be solution depending on how it is being used and the person using it. Gun control can be controlled with many methods but in the end it matters how the person is going to use the weaponry.
Like every other good ol' boy, I am concerned about being the victim of a random shooting, but at the same time, I want to be able to take down a nice10-point buck during hunting season. Guns effect every one of us every day. They fill us with fear or they make us feel protected. My point is this: guns are a problem, but using gun control to abolish them isn't necessarily the best solution. In gun control I mean laws that keep firearms off the street by preventing their purchase. I agree that some form of gun control is needed, butwhat we really need to concentrate on is gun licensing and more gun safety. The United States Government should not infringe on those rights by the enforcement of gun control against law-abiding citizens. Gun control had been a phenomenal issue in our country. In December 15, 1791 the second amendment established in the top ten amendments in the Constitution by James Madison. The amendment stated that people have a rights to bear arm to protect themself, their loved ones and their property. To legally get a gun you have to be 21 years old and over, without any criminal history nor committed in any mental institution then you need to apply for it and got a handgun safety test. After the whole process you can purchase a firearm easily. The whole purpose of the amendment was for self-defense but now people been taking advantage of it and use it for violence. Throughout the years there was so many times people use it to killed and harmed other instead of protecting. They used firearm for the wrong purpose and it affected a lot of other people. I believe our government need to have strict laws and more requirements to be able to own a firearm. It’s true that our current laws prevent certain people from getting a firearm but it did not complete stopping them from having an access to a firearm and use it to do something awful.
