Rather than put more restrictions on guns and gun owners, we should be able to freely protect ourselves and our fellow man. As we look at the way pro gun control parties are planning on enforcing gun control, you may begin to question why we would even consider using such drastic means. The idea that limiting the size of a magazine or regulating the type of gun you can purchase or even doing something as simple as a background check can stop murders like the Connecticut shooting from happening is very far-fetched. In Making Gun Control Happen the author, Patrick Radden Keefe, writes from a pro gun control standpoint. He describes that one obvious change would be to “mandate a criminal background check for all gun purchases” as it would obviously stop criminals from getting their hands on a weapon (Keefe).
Often, horrible gun-related crimes are committed by people who do not value human life, which translates to mental issues. In these type cases, it makes no difference how many laws are on the books because if a mentally deranged person is determined to secure a gun to carry out his or her plan, a gun is what he or she will get. When individuals determine to use a weapon to commit a crime they will find a way to secure the weapon, whether legally or illegally. It brings to mind the adage, “Where there’s a will there’s a way.” Therefore, implementing stricter gun laws and reducing the number of gun permits issued would, for the most part, negatively affect the good, law-abiding citizens. It is this group that could fall prey to the criminal who is going to possess and use a weapon regardless what he or she has to do to get it.

Along with the fact, Obama’s gun control plan is to also ban the use of assault rifles and high-capacity magazines. Yet, these ideas pose a threat to the second amendment, which protects the right to keep and bear arms. Gun control laws don’t need to be put into action, no matter how well the laws are assumed to be protecting. Although the abolition of gun control has its perks, some may argue that keeping and implementing gun control has advantages, too. For example, gun control protects: law-abiding citizens, children, and any other type of citizen from other harmful citizens, such as criminals.
Despite the efforts to prevent gun violence by changing laws about the type of weapons we can carry, magazine capacity, and where we can carry guns; people are still using guns for violent crimes. First of all, does the government really think that changing gun laws will actually prevent people from using them in crimes? Many politicians believe this but they are completely wrong when it comes to this. People that use firearms in a crime do not acquire the guns legally anyways; it is the law abiding citizen that cannot get guns or ammunition to protect their family because of prices or law changes. Bieler stated that “Criminals will always get guns."
This number has decreased dramatically from 2007 with a figure of 14,196. It is unfortunate that so many people lose their lives because of the wrong decision of others. I believe that guns should not be in the hands of anyone other than the defense units of our country; this includes both the police and the armed forces of the United States. I think that the guns should be banned from citizen for the following reasons: the increase of crime rates involving guns, the safety of our children, and the number of terroristic acts. Firstly, there are so many different laws that have been passed to limit the possession of guns in the hands of citizens.

This is because we have divided our nation into two different groups: one that is pro guns and the other group, who is against guns. But many people have lost the overall cause of these mass shootings because they are too busy fighting each other. One group is focused on banning guns entirely and enforcing stricter background checks, while the other is focused on their 2nd Amendment rights not being taken away and wanting to protect their freedoms. However, this is not the true problem. Our problem in the U.S. is that we are allowing regular civilians to purchase assault rifles and high capacity magazine guns in some instances without any background checks at all.
