According to FBI Statistics, guns are the number one used tool in most crimes. It is the responsibility of political leaders to help reduce the amount of these crimes. The best way to reduce these crimes is to increase the control of guns and to decrease the amount of guns in the wrong hands of the criminals. In 2011, there were a total of 8583 guns used in crimes (Expanded Homicide Data Table 1). This number has decreased dramatically from 2007 with a figure of 14,196. It is unfortunate that so many people lose their lives because of the wrong decision of others. I believe that guns should not be in the hands of anyone other than the defense units of our country; this includes both the police and the armed forces of the United States. I think that the guns should be banned from citizen for the following reasons: the increase of crime rates involving guns, the safety of our children, and the number of terroristic acts. Firstly, there are so many different laws that have been passed to limit the possession of guns in the hands of citizens. An anniversary of a mass shooting has just occurred, “On December 14, 2012, 20-year-old Adam Lanza fatally shot twenty children and six adult stay members in a mass murder at Sandy Hook Elementary School (Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting).” In this incident, this individual had easy access to weapons that were strictly for the military. There are so many different ways in trying to stop violent crimes like this. One, this person should not have had access to weapons that are dangerous enough to takes someone’s life. Two, the parents of this child should have been much more careful with what their child is capable of doing. Three, a lot of people in America believe in the individual freedom ... ... middle of paper ... ...eful weapons that can be used to disable the criminal to have enough time to call the law enforcement.
