Guitar I was as calm as a cucumber. Okay, not really. I was fidgeting with my shirt and guitar strap between my fingers like crazy, my palms were starting to sweat, and I had butterflies in my stomach flying around in a chaotic frenzy. But other than that, I was as calm as a cucumber. It was the year when I was in sixth grade (2016-17) I was going to try out a place where I could learn to play guitar, School of Rock (And I don’t mean the movie or TV show). Once a week I would meet up with an instructor who, for 45 minutes, would teach me the basics of guitar and a few songs that the band that I was in were playing. Another time that week I would meet up with that same band for 3 hours and we would practice the songs that we had been given to do, so that we would be ready for the concert that would be at the end of the session. My first lesson I was (mostly) ready. I had the guitar that I had gotten for my birthday a few years prior, in a guitar case that my dad had loaned me, and a guitar tuner and cable that was also from him . When my dad and I got to School of Rock I met the two ladies who were basically the secretaries/watch-these-kids-for-a-minute/assistant-band-leaders. “Hi, how are you doing?” asked one of the secretaries, whose name was Leslie. “Fine.” I mumbled. I couldn’t force myself to say much, and I kept rolling my shirt between my fingers. Kelsie, the other secretary, asked me “ You excited for your first lesson?” “Yeah.” I muttered, looking down. Roll, roll, roll, went my fingers. My dad, deciding not to say anything about how quiet I was, left with,“Well then, have a great lesson. I’ll be back in about 45 minutes to pick you up.” “ ‘K.
