Guitar I was as calm as a cucumber. Okay, not really. I was fidgeting with my shirt and guitar strap between my fingers like crazy, my palms were starting to sweat, and I had butterflies in my stomach flying around in a chaotic frenzy. But other than that, I was as calm as a cucumber. It was the year when I was in sixth grade (2016-17) I was going to try out a place where I could learn to play guitar, School of Rock (And I don’t mean the movie or TV show). Once a week I would meet up with an instructor who, for 45 minutes, would teach me the basics of guitar and a few songs that the band that I was in were playing. Another time that week I would meet up with that same band for 3 hours and we would practice the songs that we had been given to do, so that we would be ready for the concert that would be at the end of the session. My first lesson I was (mostly) ready. I had the guitar that I had gotten for my birthday a few years prior, in a guitar case that my dad had loaned me, and a guitar tuner and cable that was also from him . I was sitting in the car, just needing my dad (and maybe some confidence). …show more content…
When my dad and I got to School of Rock I met the two ladies who were basically the secretaries/watch-these-kids-for-a-minute/assistant-band-leaders. “Hi, how are you doing?” asked one of the secretaries, whose name was Leslie. “Fine.” I mumbled. I couldn’t force myself to say much, and I kept rolling my shirt between my fingers. Kelsie, the other secretary, asked me “ You excited for your first lesson?” “Yeah.” I muttered, looking down. Roll, roll, roll, went my fingers. My dad, deciding not to say anything about how quiet I was, left with,“Well then, have a great lesson. I’ll be back in about 45 minutes to pick you up.” “ ‘K.
Over the past year I have grown as both a person and a writer. My writing has improved
Ever since I started talking this class, English 1301, with Dr. Piercy, I have been able to expand my writing and thinking skills. Not only was I able to make more better essays but I also learned important topics such as how education creates an impact in the world. In this essay I will be talking about three writings and how they are related to this course semester. The three writings are “On Bullshit” by Harry Frankfurt, “Why I Write Bad” by Milo Beckman, and “Statement of Teaching Philosophy” by Stephen Booth. How are these 3 writings related to this semester’s course work?
Over the course of this class I feel like I have become a much better writer. When I go back and look at some of my Journal entries and assignments that I did at the beginning of the semester, I can’t help but tense up at some of the things I wrote. Sometimes the things I was writing didn’t flow well, or I might have even have missed glaring grammar mistakes.
As a second language learner I have never expected myself to be a perfect writer throughout the semester. Even If English was my first language still, I would not be a perfect writer. It is not about first or second language, it is about how well I understand the learning objectives. Then organizing and writing with my own ideas and putting them in my paper. I am going to be honest, I am not good at English subject and English subject is my strongest weakness than the other subjects. In this paper I will discuss and analyze my own writing, reflecting on the ways that my writing has improved throughout the semester.
“Fine.” She stated scrunching her eyebrows in frustration, whipping out her phone in the process.
Looking back the whole idea is rather condescending. Still, I think this would have been the first time I felt like a big kid. At four and three-quarters years old it’s hard to feel grownup; you don’t have enough years behind you. Also at that age you only have about two years of memory. That’s why I felt so incredibly mature and wise when the teacher would pick me to go rub backs.
"I'm sorry Dad, I was just really excited that we would be flying in a plane. It's so cool! Flying is awesome!" He replied, while staring out the window, watching as they flew past clouds. "Have you been on a plane before Dad?" He asked, curiously.
Usually, when someone thinks of a guitar they think along the lines of Slash playing a solo or some pop star strumming chords, but the reality is that the guitar is used for far more than just making music fans happy. Playing the guitar can be a pastime or even therapeutic. I have two guitars of my own, but I mainly use my Yamaha APX500ii. I've been playing guitars since 2011 when I received my first one. I started out playing guitar just for the novelty of being able to play it, not realizing how important it would become to me.One main thing I learned in my first few years of playing is that the guitar can be used as a stress and anxiety reducer. It has become my therapist in a sense. Although it may just be another musical instrument to
When I was a child, my view on segregation was very limited to what my parents saw. During that time, to my knowledge everyone was equal to everyone. The color black was a simply a skin color vs. racial inequality. However, as I became older my eyes slowly unraveled how crooked the world really is and or was at that time. As a white child, growing up in a suburban neighborhood within a very conservative household, I was an easy target to be a convict of being racial. Being that young and immature, I could not simply grasp the fact that African Americans were looked at as if they were the problem. The people that were within my friend consisted on the type of person you are, not the skin color. However, while my viewpoint of black and white
Another method that would have greatly helped with our discussion processes while not being interrupted by other group members is if we were to do a circle discussion. This would allow each individual to share their thoughts and ideas freely. Only when they are done speaking can other members continue their thoughts or to add on additional ideas. This method does not require any person to be supervisors but have the conversations flow naturally and gives the ability to share any restricted thoughts. The circle discussion give an organized and constructive opportunity for quiet members to contribute to the whole process. It allows each person to give their full thoughts and views without distractions.
This reflection paper is about the climate change based on articles in the Global issues book. The articles used in this reflection paper are “Climate Change” by Bill McKibben and “The Other Climate Changers” by Jessica Seddon Wallack and Veerabhadran Ramanathan. This paper will explore McKibbens ideas on if scientists are divided, the effects of climate change and how climate change can happen. This paper will also explore Wallack and Ramanathan’s thesis of black carbon and the ozone, pollutants and how to clean up the emissions. Both of the author’s perspectives on this issue are well informed and backed up with credible sources. They both explain the need to reduce our greenhouse emissions and create a global commitment that will slow down the climate change and help create a sustainable planet.
For me personally, music appreciation is defined as looking at different pieces of music and musical forms, and learning to find appreciation for them. This appreciation is formed not only by listening to several pieces of music, but by learning to understand what you may be listening too. This involves introducing yourself to many pieces of music and learning to interpret, what makes each piece different and unique. Understanding the historical background and societal changes that have taken place during the creation of the musical piece, is also an important factor to consider. Music is not only creative, but it also makes up part of a societies history. Music is an art form that connects different societies and cultures together, it possess the amazing ability to make us into one.
Throughout time different forms of art had conveyed various meanings to many people. Whereas some people like to feel and create art in all of its forms for just admiration and/or inner enjoyment, some others separate themselves by focusing on finding or constructing a meaning that the own author or creator intended to communicate and disperse to society. Nevertheless, one thing that brings these very different types of people together, making them share one same idea, is that art is a very important aspect of our everyday life and that it should be exercised for the benefit and achievement of the full human potential. Just like arts which can help students improved in different areas of education, this class has helped me improve my understanding of the different types of art forms and how they should be as part
I attended Mass at my local parish, the Parish of St. Francis de Sales, on Sunday, October 9th, in order to receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist. This also happens to be the 28th Sunday of Ordinary Time because the priest of the parish, Father Phan, wore green in order to symbolize life, anticipation for the coming of Christ, and hope. The liturgical season of Ordinary Time is also significant because it focuses on the fruits of Jesus’s three-year public ministry, his educational parables, and his extraordinary miracles. The season of Ordinary Time also serves as a reminder that the Church’s mission, our mission, is to not only share the life and hope of Jesus
