A feminist is someone who believes that women should have the same opportunities as men. Some individuals dislike the fact of being named a feminist. While many others on the hand are proud to call themselves a feminist. An upcoming artist whose very popular in the music industry, and so happens to be a strong feminist advocate is known by the stage name Grimes. In all of Grimes’s appearances, performances, and music videos, she demonstrates her knowledge of, and her refusal to participate in, self-objectification and being sexualized. In some of her famous song Grimes reverses the male gaze, creating a situation in which men are being watched and masculinity is being deconstructed. Claire was born in Vancouver; her singing career took flight when she was asked to do backup vocals for a friend. As she progressed with her music career in the industry, she realized that many famous writers who happen to be males describe her music as cute or a waif. After the writers stated this, Grimes later posted on a social media. "I don 't want to be molested at shows or on the street by people who perceive me as an object that exists for their personal satisfaction" (Grimes 10). Grimes makes this point very firm because commercials nowadays advertise safety weapons such as pepper spray and taser guns for the protection of women in public places. With today 's generation, certain males believe that a female should act a certain way and even look a specific way. As a feminist, she feels that the behavior of some men is unacceptable, which made it so common in society. "I don’t want to live in a world where I’m going to have to start employing bodyguards because this kind of behavior is so commonplace and accepted"(Grimes 10). It 's a sad fact that some females fear the world because of the dangerous behaviors of certain men. Everyone should be able to walk anywhere without needing a bodyguard. What most feminists forget is that not all men are evil and out to get them. Some men have the same views as women when it comes to feminism. John Legend who is also a feminist said "All men should be feminists. If men care about women 's rights, the world will be a better place. We are better off when women are empowered -- it leads to a better society” (John 11).
