In the story of Beowulf, he is viewed as an epic hero. Beowulf has showed several traits to be considered an epic hero, he is courageous, strong and always ready to put up a fight. He has proved to everyone that he has all of these, because of that, the king of Herot, Hrothgar, called him in to save the town from an epic monster. Since Beowulf is very courageous, he was not scared to put up a fight with anyone. He and his fourteen men left their country and headed for Herot to fight this monster known by Grendel. “My people have said, the wisest, most knowing and best of them, that my duty was to go to the Danes” (149, Beowulf).
