How to Make an Ancient Greek Lyre
Even in ancient times, music was favored. Just as there is now, there were hundreds of instruments including the lyre. “A lyre, one of the most ancient musical instruments of the stringed kind. There can scarcely be any doubt that this and similar instruments were used by the Eastern nations and by the Egyptians, long before the Greeks became acquainted with them, and that they were introduced among the Greeks from Asia Minor” Leohard Schmitz stated. Once you finish tracing onto the wood, take a saw and cut out what you trace. Sand out the side to make it smoother.Once you sand out the sides use the paper before, place another clean piece of wood and trace a line on the paper across the Lyre (just underneath the round tops). Mark where these lines end on the wood and cut out the side into a rectangle of that length. It only need to be an inch so don’t make it too big. Once you’re done, sand that rectangular piece. Afterward use wood glue and glue it onto the Lyre underneath the upper circular endings. With another small piece of wood, create a crescent-like shape this is where the strings would begin. Sand it carefully and place it in the center of the Lyre’s body. In the rectangular piece of wood, drill six holes in the top. Spread them out equally. This is where you will tie end of the strings.
