Graffiti or street art is considered an art form because it includes aesthetic criteria, incoherence and nonstandard presentation. Graffiti has been developing since the late 1960’s. The origins of graffiti go back to the beginnings of human social interaction. Graffiti has been found in uncovered, ancient Egyptian monuments and graffiti was preserved on walls in Pompeii. Also, graffiti art is colorful and complex. Graffiti artists need a considerable amount of skills to complete their artwork, they need to have creativity for using spray paint. The concerns of modern graffiti art originated in New York and it was known first as New York Style Graffiti. To draw a graffiti, they need at least eight hours, a sixty foot long and twelve foot wide wall and also, they need twenty to thirty cans for their art. Colum McCann’s novel, Let the Great World Spin, also talks about graffiti done on the tunnel walls in New York and he wrote in his novel, “he trills the sighting through his mind, matches it up against all the old tags in other part of the tunnel, and he figures it’s brand new, it must be, yes, and he gives a quiet first pump-someone’s come and tagged downtown” (McCann 174). In the novel, graffiti art photographer Fernando Marcano went to the tunnel and saw a graffiti art on a tunnel wall what he already took the picture but, he saw some new arts too which he didn’t see before there. Building owners give permission to draw a graffiti art on walls because, it makes buildings meaningful, attractive and colorful such as the “Five Pointz” and “Top to Bottom” buildings. From my personal experience, during in our trip “Top to Bottom”, I observed that the building was covered by different type of colorful paintings, pictures and, writings. That pictures inspired and amazed me. Every picture has a different meaning and artist wants to show people by his graffiti art. Also, People use the building wall to raise their voice against of any unlawful work and show their ideas. For example, in 1971, Bangladesh fought with Pakistan to get the freedom. Bangladeshi graffiti artist wrote the slogan on the building wall to inspire people to fight with Pakistani army. Also, they wrote what they wanted from Pakistani government and it was the easiest to express people’s voice against of Pakistani government. So, I think graffiti art should belong the building

The “vandalism” is displayed in museums all around the world, many people have recognized graffiti and become more interested, and lastly, many people appreciate it for the beauty and emotions tied into the artwork.
Even though there is a fear of getting caught, this is what artist usually consider the very core of graffiti culture. Many critics have argued that graffiti is vandalism and should be removed. However, “someone painted over your house and, of course, you’re not too happy about it. No one has the right to do that without your permission and, without even looking at it, you can pronounce it vandalism. To begin with, graffiti is exhibited in many museums and galleries along with art. London is home to many galleries that showcase graffiti, such as the Lawrence Alkin Gallery. If graffiti is displayed in galleries along with art, this should qualify it as such. Secondly, art has changed and is still changing throughout many phases, from the era of cave painting to the era of postmodernism and deconstructivism. Graffiti has also gone through many movements and changes in style, from the first simple scribble to the large murals. Its display in galleries and its development into more complex forms suggest that it is a form of art.

It is a ridiculous belief that just because graffiti is done somewhere without consent, it throws out the notion that it is still art. Sure, the piece of work was done illegally but why can’t the work still be appreciated and enjoyed. Art is art wherever it is found. The location of the piece does not change that. In fact, graffiti can kill two birds with one stone. First, at the foundation it is a form of art. Second, on top of that foundation a message can be erected and directed. Graffiti is often considered to be art because of new artists, such as One of the main reasons street art is considered a crime is because it is believed to deface the property of which it has been applied to. Another problem being that Graffiti is costly to clean, in major cities the budget for cleaning graffiti can be in the millions. There is a solution to this problem that one city in Australia has applied. Police in Fremantle, Australia are focusing on getting rid of tags and less desirable graffiti but leaving the rest up because they believe it impacts the “culture and vibrancy of the city.”
