12 Years; then… I Graduated Graduation was the most important day in my life. I waited for this amazing day for twelve years to reach my dream and move on to college. For most people, graduation is a memorable day. It is hard for me to forget it even after a hundred years. The day I woke up realizing it was my graduation day, I was smiling all day long knowing that I had made my family proud of me. I remember everything about my graduation day: my party, cake, dress, makeup, hair, cap and gown, and the gifts I got from family and friends. I opened my eyes at around 9:00 a.m.; I could not imagine that today was my graduation day. I was so excited to get ready for the day I had dreamt of for twelve years. I called my cousin Sandra to remind her to do my makeup because she is a makeup artist. I told her that I needed it to be flawless because I wanted this day to be complete in everyway. Then, I heard everyone scream “Surprise!” I could not believe my eyes. There was decoration all over the living room, a cake on the table, music and a big bouquet of pink flowers. My eyes start tearing. I was delighted and humbled by how lucky I was to have such an amazing family. I ran up to my parents, my three brothers, and sisters in law and hugged all of them. We started singing and dancing I cannot forget those moments of my life. Then I realized time was running and that I still had to go to my cousin’s house to do my makeup. My middle school’s dean smiles while handing me my certificate. I gave her my best fake smile and stood in line with the rest of my classmates who made the honor roll. I put my medal around my neck, held my certificate in my left hand, and put my right arm behind my back. I can’t believe I left my jacket in my mom’s car.
It was a few days before I left for school and my best friend, Kate, was throwing a good-bye party for our group of friends. I was so excited for this bash seeing that it would be the last time our group would be together for a while. It was a time for all of us to move on and embark upon futures that held so much for all of us, and to say farewell to the people and memories that had shaped us.
The day started off like any average day, I took a hot shower, got dressed and got prepared for the day. It wasn’t until I sat down and started eating my bowl full of cheerios with extra sugar, that I realized what was actually happening. Today would be the day I finally bought my first car, after a year of hard work and conservative economic decisions.
The big day was finally here! I woke up around four in the morning to get my hair and makeup done. I had stayed in Fort Worth at my aunt’s house, since the lady doing my hair lived closed to her. So already it starts to go bad. The lady called in saying she couldn’t make it because her car broke down, so of course I start freaking out. I needed my hair and makeup done a.s.a.p. so I could be on my way home to Jacksboro. My aunt started to call some people she knew and I waited impatiently starting to do my own make up. All of my friends and family came to share my happiness, and they were present throughout the whole graduation ceremony. Despite the fact that most of such official events seemed to be quite boring for me before, this one passed like a snap of the finger. Even those speeches that I expected to be the most boring seemed to be quite encouraging and entertaining.
Gifts, people, pets, memories and actions are some of the countless things people remember in their high and low points in life. From time to time, I dwell on the things that impacted my life, and the most meaningful one of which was attaining my high school diploma. To begin with, I was not fond of school when I reached high school. Then, I made a decision to join the Armed Forces and did not know I needed a high school diploma to join. Eventually, I ended up with a high school diploma and an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, that I now find extremely helpful, as I am in college. Given these points, I can say that I am extremely proud of myself and I am looking forward to accomplish much more in the near future.
It was a warm April day and all of the students were let out of school for the day. I went home to finish packing with the help of my parents making sure that I had everything and I wasn 't forgetting. I was excited for a week now to go on the trip to Washington D.C. with the whole 8th grade class for a week.
The evening of my 8th grade honor roll ceremony is one of my favorite memories from middle school. Most people would choose graduation –or as my school liked to call it, promotion- but graduating wasn’t very special to me. Anyone who passed all of their classes with a D or above could graduate. That’s practically everyone in my grade! Another reason graduation wasn’t as important to me was because it was just middle school. I still had the two big ones. high school and college graduations. But the honor roll ceremony? That was something I was extremely excited to be a part of.
What I had thought was the best day in my life was probably the worst. Skipping from fourth grade to sixth grade has cursed me to struggle with my education because I missed that crucial year. From then on, I seemed to struggle with math and reading and I received little help in the form of tutoring. It has taken years to gain confidence in my academic abilities. As senior year is coming to a wrap, many memories are flowing through the mind as graduation day approaches. It is always fun to look back at the activities that we were involved with, classes we took, and laughs that we all shared. Senior year has been the most memorable year out of the four years that I have spent in high school. I love dissecting animals, or anything I can get my hands on, and one day our Human Anatomy and Physiology class had the privilege to dissect a cat.
...mester, until the day I graduated, I gave my all. I enjoyed going to school. I made sure that everything that I started, that it was finished, and on time. I made sure everything was done right. My parents and teachers were surprised. When the day came for grades to be given my name was found among those on the honor roll.
It was in the beginning of 2010. I graduated to tenth grade, the senior year of the school. My emotions were driven by both anxiety and exultation. Since the final score in the tenth grade was a yardstick of our knowledge-gained and hard-work done throughout our schooling, all of us were concerned. However, the feeling of freedom after the tenth grade kept us elated. Those memories are quite vivid in my memory.

I finally had to eat something light before my stomach ate itself, although I don’t know that I was fully hungry, or if I was just nervous, either way I ate a chopped up apple and yogurt with granola being very careful to not ruin my makeup. After eating a light breakfast the moment I had dreamed of as a child came, putting on my wedding dress. I had been waiting for that moment for such a long time, theres something magical about trying on your wedding dress the day of the wedding, it makes everything feel complete and whole. When I looked in the mirror looking back at me was a beautiful young woman that was full of excitement and happiness that made me get emotional, I had to force back tears for I didn’t want to look like a clown with makeup running down my face. By that time my aunts and uncles showed up to celebrate with the bride and make a toast. The pink champagne was so satisfying when it went down my throat, it felt cool and light that I could’ve easily had another glass, but I wanted to pace myself I still had a long day ahead of me. Graduation: the last day that I would unwillingly set foot on the fields of Horizon High School. I could feel my heart beating out of my chest, and tried so hard to keep my feet moving one after the other in order to maintain my perfect stature. After the two hour wait of opening speeches, class songs, and the calling off of the five hundred plus names that were in front of me, it was finally my turn. As my row stood up and we walked towards the stage it had set in at last, this is it, I am done. My high school career ended on that night, but it didn’t close the book that is my life, it only started a new chapter, and with it came a whole slue of uncertainties.
