Reflection Of Observation In The Bay Minette Middle School

During this semester, I was asked to observe Bay Minette Middle Schools’ seventh-grade history and civics teacher Mr. Greene. Before entering Mr. Greene’s classroom, I had expected for him to be a representation of a strict teacher, just as he was when I attended the school. However, I instead found a teacher whom is very respected and interested in his students and seeing them succeed. It was because of this that I begun to realize how I could be also become a teacher like Mr. Greene. Upon entering Mr. Greene’s class, I remembered how important these years are for a student. Greene’s classes. Some of the students had trouble with reading and understanding the curriculum, while others needed assistance in their reading and writing. However, for these students, there was not a paraprofessional or another teacher present within the classroom to help them, leaving it to Mr. Greene to have to assist them alone. One student that really made an appearance upon me was a hearing and speech impaired student.I have personally met with the child beforehand and know that she is a sweet girl whom, despite her disability, does everything that she can to succeed in life.This student was the only one with a disability whom had a paraprofessional with her at all times within the classroom. She sat diagonal to the board and performed sign language so that the girl could understand the material that Mr. Greene was presenting to the class. I became amazed to see how her aid was constantly there to assist her and correspond with her throughout the day, while the other kids were not even given the opportunity to be assisted.The final students I noticed with disabilities within the classroom were the behavioral students. The school does not provide an aid to walk with these students from each class and to monitor how they are behaving or engaging within the class. However, each of these students instead is provided with a daily chart, of which they are required to score a ten, in order to be able to attend that same class the next day. This is only used for the kids whom have extreme behavioral issues. For these students, it can be a struggle to obtain this score on a daily basis. It also becomes an issue because if they are not present to obtain the curriculum, then their grades often suffer. It is therefore up to these students to do their best to act appropriately in order to be engaged with the other students. These three types of students, though very
