1.1 The Background
Good nutrition is critical to human health. Diverse, high quality food is critical to nutrition. Agriculture plays a key role in producing and improving access to the nutritious food needed for healthy, productive lives (Maher et al., 2015). Good nutrition is the foundation for healthy, effective and productive lives. Adequate maternal nutrition in mothers improves the likelihood of giving birth to healthy children, with strong immune systems and well-developed brains (Maher et al., 2015). Persistently good nutrition helps those children carry on growing in strength and resilience .They are more apt to fight off disease, do better in school and have more opportunity to reach their full potential in life (IFPRI, 2014).

Poor nutrition is a major health problem, especially in African countries (Kadiyala et al., 2014). Malnutrition implies access to poor food. It also implies not enough as well as too much food. Wrong type of food makes the body’s respond to a wide range of infections that result in mal-absorption of nutrients or the inability to utilize nutrients properly to maintain health (Agulanna et al., 2013).More than half of the world’s poorest people live in farming communities, including many suffering from under nutrition. Recent estimates suggest that globally, the combined effect of inadequate macro (protein–energy) and micro-nutrient (including iron and iodine) intakes holds 35% of all child deaths and are responsible for 11% of global disease burden (Black et al., …show more content…
Poor diets, disease and other factors mean that many people do not get the nutrients they need for a healthy life. More than 30% of the world’s population 2 billion people are anemic, many due to iron deficiency (WHO, 2010a), hunger and malnutrition have effects that last throughout the life cycle, with poorly nourished children growing up to less healthy and productive than they could be. ,Clifford et al. (2006) Donald (2006) and Bradley (2002) opined that health capital is affected by a number of preventable diseases such as malaria fever, HIV/AIDS, farm injuries, cholera fever, respiratory diseases and skin

In conclusion, hunger is a constant, chronic pain distressing many children. Famished children should have become a thing of the past a long time ago. The thought may seem impossible, but the world produces enough food to feed everyone. In the world as a whole, per capita food availability has risen from about 2220 kcal/person/day in the early 1960s to 2790 kcal/person/day in 2006-08, while developing countries also recorded a leap (2015 World Hunger and Poverty Facts and
Education plays a dominant role in the lives of students all over the United States. Since most students spend roughly eight to twelve hours in school, it is important to make sure that they are provided with a healthy and nutritious breakfast, lunch and snack.
Proper nutrition is important in maintaining a long and healthy life. Most Americans are rushed due to their busy work schedules, and do not take the time to plan their diets properly. Like me, most Americans are unaware of the importance of eating a healthy diet and consuming too many foods without the proper nutrients. Throughout my life, I have been fortunate. I have not had any major health problems, and have been able to consume most foods without having to worry about gaining weight.
Even though there is such a large food production in India and they are one of the world’s largest food exporters, still so many go hungry. India’s economy has boomed in the past decades, creating an even larger gap between rich and poor.Even though their middle and upper class outnumber their poor, the population is so large that the amount of people below the poverty line is unprecedented. Malnutrition of the poor is India’s largest downfall in the area of food security and nutrition. It is more common for undernutrition to occur in rural areas of India, but it even happens in cities. According to Unicef, out of the 20% of children worldwide that are “wasting” (a person or a part of the body becoming progressively weaker and more emaciated), over one third are Indian citizens. If just regarding children under the age of five years old, 43% are underweight, and 48% (or 61 million children) have stunted growth due to malnutrition. Lack of education is a large contributor to the vast disparity of nutritional security. Children whose mothers have less than 12 years of school education are five times more likely to be
Nutrition and fitness play two of the most important roles in human health, and it is not difficult to understand some of the consequences for ignoring their significance. Ignoring proper nutritional and fitness habits can lead to extreme health risks such as obesity; most of which will eventually cause serious health issues up to and including death. To decrease these serious health risks and promote favorable personal health, one should incorporate positive nutritional and fitness habits.
Since we have been learning about nutrition in class, our task was to record a food log. Nutrition requires a well-balanced diet containing nutrient and vitamins like amino acids and fatty acids. Over the past seven days I have been recording and have been looking very carefully at my intake of nutrients, minerals, vitamins, and fats. In our task, the objective was to record the basic foods we ate during the period of seven, but it did not require recording every single detail or our intake of food. Doing this food log was a pain and it was disturbing because I never wrote about what I ate like breakfast, lunch, dinner, or additional meals. I found this food log useful because it helped me learn what I can change in my intake of foods to make my diet healthy and to see what about my diet is affecting me from being healthy because I could affect me in the future.
A child’s proper growth depends greatly on their nutrition and health. A healthy diet is essential to the developing child. Food should never be used to reward, punish, or bribe a child. Instead children should have three healthy meals with snacks in between. It is also important for children to have good self care behaviors (including bathing, washing hands, brushing teeth), and adequate sleep.
“Malnourished children are 20% less literate than those with a healthier diet, says UK charity Save the Children” (The Information Daily). When parents become victims of poverty it can have some very unpleasing long and short term effects to their children. Parents in poverty have a lot on their plate and buying the best quality food or affording enough food can be a tumultuous task. Quality nutrition is essential for the development of the brain. At a young age, poor nutrition or not enough nutrition can seriously hinder “the brain 's development, a child’s ability to learn and has a devastating impact on a child’s future”(The Information Daily). “Malnutrition in the early developmental stages of the brain, by restricting the children’s cognitive growth, can lower a child 's IQ has much has 20 points”(The Information Daily). Long term effects of malnutrition leave permanent damage to the brain, however, malnutrition has short term effects as well. Malnourishment can greatly compromise a child’s immune system, making them more susceptible to infectious diseases. “Low counts of zinc, iron and vitamin A are commonly associated with weakened immune function” (Orphan Nutrition). A deadly infection can have a huge impact on a poverty stricken family leading to less affordability. Malnutrition negatively affects a student throughout their educational
With a good nutrition, students are able to learn easier, they have fewer absences, and students’ behavior improves, thus causing fewer disruptions in the classroom. Every student has the potential to do well in school. Failing to provide good nutrition puts them at risk for missing out on meeting that potential. Taking action can provide healthier choices in school and life and can set students up for success in the future.
Nutrition is an important key to learn and understand in your life while you get older. Many people do not know the proper diet and exercise to keep their body healthy and strong. Throughout this course, I have learned information on different kinds of vitamins, carbohydrates, amino acids and other helpful diets. After reading and logging my dietary log for a week it has helped me re-organize my diet and health. I have learned about how to personally manage my exercise and diet and I am seeing some good results because of what I learned from this class. I started to see what I was missing in my diet and started to know what quantity and quality was for your diet. I also took a leap into my family health history to see what I need to change
Nutrition is the process of nurturing or being nourished; the total of all the processes that a plant or animal uses to take in and process food substances to maintain a healthy life. A healthy nutrition life style requires a balanced diet of food selected from the five basic food groups, fruits, vegetables, naturally calcium rich dairy products or calcium enriched products, whole grains, and protein (lean meat fish, peas and beans). Other nutritional factors should also be considered. Most fruits and vegetables are better if they are consumed raw because heating destroys some of the healthy nutrients. Steaming and broiling food is better than boiling or frying foods. Preparing fresh fruits and vegetables is better than processed or prepared
Proper nutrition is one of the most essential elements to being healthy and living a long life. People deal with food every day, and food has been a part of life since the beginning of civilization. What we eat becomes our diet, and our diet plays a major role in deciding how healthy we are and how well our body functions. Without proper diet, our body cannot carry out the functions it needs to perform. Most people have some common knowledge on what is good and what is bad for the human body to consume. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, and grains are some common items people think of when they think of healthy foods. However, it is not enough just to know what foods are good for your body, it is also important to understand why certain foods are good for you and what they do to help the body function.
When we eat healthy food, we physically and mentally feel good. Good food habits and a balance diet aren’t developed in one day, nor they can be destroyed in one unbalanced meal. When we eat healthy food, we choose to have a healthier lifestyle. We choose to stay fit and fine. But, it doesn’t mean we will lose our ability to enjoy any other foods. Eating healthy food help us to gain so many things that will affect us for the rest of our life including a longer life, the ability to enjoy natural foods, and a sense of self-esteem. Not only that, but it also helps us to do better performance in the classroom, and it also make you feel and look best. But, if we choose to ignore healthy food and start having a poor diet then our life will eventually end up being in a great health problem. It will not only stop us from getting success in academic, but it can also lead us to a serious long-term illness, such as
