As the head coach of the Men’s Soccer Team, it is important that my athletes fully know and understand the principles of good eating when it comes to their sport. Once they understand how this method works, they will know why it is mandatory to have a healthy diet. They will also be more aware of how to maintain one as well. In this paper, I will demonstrate what and how I will teach my players about optimal nutrition. Therefore, I will be lecturing about the Principles of Good Eating. The most important areas in the Principles of Good Eating are Variety, Balance, and Moderation. I am a coach who prefers hands-on learning as well as evidence based practice. For variety, you will need to include the following in your diet: fruit, vegetables, grains, protein foods and dairy products. The amount of all nutrients required will depend on the athlete’s age, sex, as well as their physical activity level. In order for them to receive this information, they will refer to the chart and diagrams located on www.choosemyplate.gov. All of the following which I am about to mention are good sources of carbohydrates and carbohydrates will come in handy with providing glycogen for the muscles since there is an extreme amount of running in soccer. It is also important to keep any possible food allergies in mind. For the fruit and vegetable groups, any type will be permissible: fresh, dried, even frozen. Eating fruit and vegetables gives benefits such as lessening the chances for myocardial infarctions, stroke, cancer, and diabetes. For the grain group, there are two types: whole grain(has the bran, germ, and endosperm) and refines(grain without bran and germ). Either source of grain will be fine, perhaps oatmeal, white or brown rice, and white or wheat bread. Consuming grains can reduce constipation and assist with managing weight. This group is also essential in increasing fiber. Any type of food deriving from poultry, seafood, beans, eggs, and nuts are considered as protein foods. There are mainly five(5) good groups and they all have a specific role to perform in making sure that the diet is balanced: bread, fruit and vegetables, dairy, poultry and fish, and foods with fat. It is important to remember that each of these food groups are required daily in order to receive the nutrients that each group offers. In the variety section, I mentioned all of the food groups excluding the Foods with Fat Group. I decided to mention it here because this needs to be kept under close scrutiny. This group should only be eaten in moderateness, this means the exact accurate amount: nothing less and nothing more. With maintaining balance comes an issue named nutritional deficiency better known as malnutrition. This condition evolves from not having enough nutrients from a certain group.
