Did you know that an average adult makes over 35,000 conscious decisions a day? Decisions are a part of our everyday lives, whether we are aware of it or not. In the business world, decision making is vital to an expanding company. It is well known that success in the business arena is determined by good and ethical business decisions; but what is good and ethical decision making? Vitell mentions in his Journal of Business Ethics, that “while the link between religion and business may go back centuries, indeed millennia” its presence in the contemporary business world has only surfaced 50 years ago. Vitell also compares a businessman’s responsibility to contribute to human satisfaction to that of charity in religion to show that religion and business ethics have a lot to learn from each other. Religiosity is the key factor when incorporating religious philosophies into business decisions. Religiosity is “ a belief in God accompanied by a commitment to follow principles believed to be set by God” (Vitell). Having a business based of off religious principles allows it to connect to others who share a common faith. To violate one’s freedom of religion means upsetting the mass of people who believe in the free practice of religion. This freedom ensures that people will have a voice in the community that they live in, and have an equal opportunity.
