More than one-third of U.S. adults are obese (CDC). Obesity can cause many life threatening conditions including diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and even cancer. The medical expenses of people who are obese were over $1,400 more than those of normal weight in the United States. Many people do not even realize how many calories they are consuming on a regular basis. With busy lives, going to get fast food seems to be a much better option than going to the store to get all the groceries required to make a home cooked meal. It does not help that many healthy foods tend to cost noticeably more than unhealthy food, not to mention the taste difference generally occurring between the two. Convenience, price and sugary goodness comes at a price, perhaps not so much in cash, but it can cost people their lives.…show more content…
When it comes to meal planning, it takes a lot of time and effort to create a menu and buy groceries accordingly, not to mention the hundreds of dollars that are dropped at grocery stores. Even after the food is bought, that person would also need a recipe to make a dish containing those foods. Then comes preparing the meal, chopping up the fruits and vegetables, cutting the meat, working some type of grain in, and finally cooking. Some dishes like this could take up to an hour to complete. In contrast, picking up a couple items from your local fast food restaurant for dinner could cost less than eight dollars and you are in and out in under five minutes.
