God Support Equality for Women

Throughout history religion has been harsh on women from the ancient times when their children were sacrificed to God, when the Greeks used them as prostitutes in temples and today when women are discriminated against and oppressed. This implies that women are inferior to men(Quinn). However, the Bible clearly provides evidence that God supports equality for women in the Book of Genesis as the story of the creation is told. Furthermore, in the New Testament the Gospel of John and Acts and Galatians provide clear, convincing evidence that it is God’s will for women to have equality.
There are many teachings in the Bible concerning women and most are built on the basis on the lessons taught in Genesis(Quinn). The first lesson that teaches about gender equity is Genesis 1:27, “God created man in His own image, in the image of God. He created him, male and female. He created them.” This verse is letting us know that males and females were created in the image of God and does not say that males are to dominate or rule over females. They were created in the likeness of God and God blessed them.
This is followed by, “The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him." (NIV, Genesis 2:18). This verse indicates that males and females are equals because woman was created her to be his helper, not his slave. Being a helper does not make one inferior to who they are helping. Therefore, God created males and females as equals. This is demonstrated when God appointed both of them as custodians of the Garden and Eden (Christian Bible Reference).

In summary, the Bible intentionally tells us that it is God’s desire for women to have the same equality as men. This is clearly demonstrated in the story of the creation in Genesis. Women are greatly loved by God who created them equal to men. He created them in His own image and welcomed them to know him in a personal relationship that offered eternal life. Furthermore, Jesus taught the will of God which included equality for women. The gift of eternal life for believers is offered to men and women equally. Additionally, God does not discriminate against women. God redeemed them through the death of His only Son and will one day welcome them into His heavenly home, those who claimed Jesus Chris as their personal Savior and Lord. Jesus removed the barriers which provided her with equality, respect and the status given to men (Quinn).
