People deserve to hold the right perception about GM crops and there companies. GM foods are not the solution to a better life and in my opinion only lead to more problems that is why I am against the use and production of Genetically Modified foods
Allergies that people have never had can spring up from the genetically produced allergens in the GMOs. I think that if we do not start to bring light and change to this situation then it will completely take over our power to keep our bodies healthy. Maybe people will start to realize what is happening and become proactive in a food revolution. I’ve always thought I had the power to keep myself healthy, but after research on the foods I eat I’ve realized that is not the truth. What is the truth is that the GMOs in our foods are very toxic, and something has to be done about their production.
I think everybody should turn to organic foods to help them live healthier lives. The reason that foods are so bad for the body to consume is because foods are packed with GMO’s. GMO’s are “genetically modified organisms” which are plants or animals that have been genetically engineered with DNA from bacteria, viruses, or other plants and animals. These experimental combinations of genes from different species cannot occur in nature, naturally (“GMO Facts,”2014). Cutting GMO’s out of your everyday diet can be extremely hard due to the fact that when you buy products that contain GMO you may not know because it doesn’t have to be labeled (“GMO Facts,” 2014).
Food produced with genetically modified organisms (GMO) warrants considerable debate. Several consumer watchdog groups, like Greenpeace International, advocate banning GMO foods. Others, however, maintain that GMO foods are safe for human consumption and can help feed the world while reducing the use of pesticides. Nonetheless, although public opinion is divided over the acceptance and safety of genetically modified foods, one thing is certain: Consumers should be made explicitly aware of GM foods; these foods must be labeled. People have a right to know what they are ingesting and how it is produced.
It would change the whole ecosystem and even change the other ecosystem that is near it. Also the economic advantage of the genetic modified food cannot be justified by the unethical mistreatment of the farmers and unfair economic tactics. Since genetic modified food is relevant new there are still some problem with it as we do not know the long-term effects of the genetic modified food. With these concerns on what it will do to the ecosystem and whether it is safe to consume and economically ethically, I firmly believe that genetic modified food should not be sold until scientist could fully solve these concerns.
Moreover, the temptation of an increased profit from a cheap rate of production for genetically modified foods has blinded many ambitious companies from realizing the health concerns regarding their customers. (PBS, par 80) Ultimately, genetically modified crops which are unnatural to the earth serve as gateways for superbugs to enter organic farms and lands surrounding these synthesized crops. (PBS, par 59) The abnormal structures and unnatural substances in genetically modified foods have proven to have harmful affects on the body. With such a dominant presence in the food industry, genetically modified foods have leaked into peoples’ staple foods, having a consistent attack on people’s health. One of the pressing health complications that come with genetically engineered foods is allergies.
In conclusion , the negatives outweigh the positives on genetically modified foods and the health concerns of consuming these types of products are believed to be hazardous to your body due to the little amount of research we have done on the food. Labeling continues to be problematic but hopefully soon we can pass a bill declaring that all genetically modified foods must be labeled. Genetically modified foods will continue to be s topic of debate until we can figure out a solution. Works Cited Kallas, Julia. "Q&A: Health Impacts of Genetically Modified Foods Still Unknown."
Despite the obvious benefits of more nutritious foods and crops that are hardier and more resistant to harsher climates, there are some concerns surrounding GM foods. Each new alteration can cause an unforeseen allergic reaction, negate the effects of antibiotics, or potentially cause some adverse effects to the environment (Falkner 101). Every newly developed GM food must be tested on a case by case basis as there is no universal method that determines the safety of all modified components. As a result, long term effects of ingesting food with altered material are unknown. You may not know it, but in the United States GM foods are quite prevalent.
Did you know that Genetically Modified Organisms are found in sixty to eighty percent of processed foods and that the United States Food and Drug Administration does not test any of these foods beforehand to see if they are safe to consume? (Wohlers 73). Genetically Modified Organisms are defined as organisms whose DNA has been changed in a way that would not naturally occur. The purpose of developing these genetically modified organisms was to improve produce by creating an increased tolerance to disease. While it is great to want to keep diseases out of our foods, the science of altering our food has no guarantees that it will actually protect against disease and has the potential to actually damage our bodies, environment, and economy.
GMO’s or genetically modified organisms, are living things such as microorganisms, plants, or animals that do not occur naturally. They are the product of genetic engineering, a scientific process that alters the biological makeup of a species, or combines genetic material from one species with that of another species. (DOC: Genetically-Modified Organisms (GMOs).) The reason the companies use genetically modified products is because they have higher resistance against many things such as diseases and harsh which makes it easier to grow without being wiped out. The usage of genetically modified organisms in food production is a popular reason for outrage.
