This report examines the nature of the business world today in relation to globalization, impacts of technology and competition, with real company examples of each. In addition, it will explain how companies use information systems to compete and operate in global markets.
Impacts of technology
One of the impacts of technology in the business world today is robots and machines. Technology has impacted the way suppliers manufacture their products or the way companies provides a service. Before, they employed people to do most jobs in the factory, but since technology has evolved many of those same jobs are now done but machines or robots. The reason for this is because machines can get the job done in half or less time it would take a person,

Information systems and globalization has also given businesses better tools to connect with foreign trade around the world.
For example, a lot of clothing businesses (i.e. in Ireland) work with China, Indonesia, or other countries with a cheap work force to get clothes made cheaper than if it was to be made in the country its being sold in. An example of a company that does this is Adidas, they get their clothes made cheap in Indonesia, put their brand name on it and charge a high price. If there were no globalization companies would never be able to do this. The introduction of information systems and globalization has saved many companies a lot of money.
A different example of globalization and information systems would be, if a bank in Ireland needs to borrow money from a bank in china, they can do it all, through networks using skype, email, and text etc. They also don’t need a translator as they can use google translate for example.
Globalization with information systems has made it much more convenient for companies to work outside their original country.
With the globalization the corporation is now able to bring about their products and services to different markets at a right time.
With technology, small businesses can implement technology at the level as larger organizations. Most organizations consider implementing technology in their planning processes that allows owners to create operations using the best technology available. For organizations to develop competitive advantage in the economic marketplace today, companies commonly try to develop a strong information technology infrastructure consisting of computers, servers, and digital products. Technology has also helped organizations improve their employees’ productivity that save them time completing tasks to focus on important things such as precision and creativity. Organizations have driven down the cost of processing data using technology by manipulating and transferring large volumes of data to various units within their organization. Technology has also improved collaboration within organizations where employees can connect with their coworkers anytime and from any location. Technology has offered a number of connectivity options that facilitate continued discussion and collaboration among work teams in situations where persons might not be in office physically which includes teleworking, off work assignments, and video
This assignment will focus on the importance of information systems for running and managing a business today. An information system is an integrated set of components for collecting, storing, and processing data and for providing information, knowledge, and digital products. Business firms and other organizations rely on information systems to carry out and manage their operations, interact with their customers and suppliers, and compete in the marketplace. Information systems are used to run interorganizational supply chains and electronic markets. Encyclopaedia Britannica. (2017). information system. It is interesting and very pleasant to see how people from across the world work together to come up with ideas that make their company the best in what they do. This interconnection among people and places throughout the world which is with increasing level is called globalization. Some people think of it as internationalization where people from different parts of the world work with each other to bring out something quite enjoyable. Before, each country had its own business which didn’t collaborate with anybody else but themselves within the country. Since globalization has spread quite far, there are numerus examples available in our world today. Globalization can be found in economics, blending of cultures, technology,
Globalization helps restrict movement of products, and ideas across national borders and regional lines. Bill Gates once said, “this is a very exciting time in the world of information. It's not just that the personal computer has come along as a great tool. The whole pace of business is moving faster. Globalization is forcing companies to do things in new ways.” I believe that the current stage of globalization is a good thing because, it’s creating jobs in third world countries, creating cheaper prices on products, and it’s creating competition between businesses.
Globalization impacts our work, lives and world in a complex array of ways. Globalization is sometimes narrowed down to the areas of economics and trade, but with the notions of interconnectedness and interdependence, globalization shows itself in many ways. It interweaves lives, communities, companies, countries and continents. Globalization is how cultures and societies develop, how ideas moving around the world and, and how people interact around the world.
Information technology (IT) is the driving force in the process of globalization. It has become ubiquitous and is changing every aspect of how people live their life. He used IT at the start of the business to connect SMEs together, championing small businesses and operating an ecosystem where all participants have an opportunity to prosper. With the emergence of smart phones, it is impossible to not see someone using their phones to surf the internet in every corner of the world. Through the influence of Jack Ma, Alibaba is shaped to seize opportunities. The company found its way into mobile applications. Now, not only can Alibaba be accessed through the internet, people of all ages who own a smart phone is able to be connected to the company. With this, the company grew and this also encourages SMEs to challenge large enterprises, this link back to the value of
Globalisation has had a significant impact on the way companies do business in recent years. It has created an economic environment that has become more connected and competitive. Through the use of internet and technology, distance and time between countries has been reduced significantly thanks to more efficient logistics and transportation and better networking between organisations. It is now easier than ever for companies to purchase products from different parts of the world and manage those supply chains, especially as many of the links in these chains can be automated. Without the Internet, continued communication and coordination amongst these worldwide suppliers would be more difficult.
Globalization can not only affect a company opening an office in another country but it can affect a small local business as well. As the internet brings the world closer together it becomes far more likely that a business that opened with no intention of selling internationally will have customers form different parts of the world asking for their product. For instance a steel company located in Pennsylvania may suddenly find orders coming in from South American factories. How the steel plant chooses to handle this new international customer could mean ...
With the globalization of a product, a company might benefit in many ways. First, by sifting its production or services overseas, the company can reduce its overall production costs due to availability of low-cost labor. Second, working collectively with other companies overseas allows companies to access technical knowledge or resources that are either unavailable or are too expensive at home.
Business today is inextricably intertwined with technology, from the smallest home office, to a multinational corporation with multiple monolithic legacy application. It is impossible to be in business today without confronting the issues of technology. The way we do business today is different than 30 years ago. Technology has evolved around the areas of telecommunication, travel, stock market, shipping even around our daily lives. E-commerce a system by which people can buy, sell and deal without even seeing the person on the other side has taken a front seat in improving the economy of countries around the world. Technology today has made it possible for monetary institutions to help locate the customers resources and help solve their problems at any given time through online banking. The Internet, a boon to all business, is playing a part of a catalyst; it links millions of customers to its suppliers and vice versa due to this, manufactures are able to cut the role of middlemen and are able to deal with the customers, giving them the ability for direct input from the customers about their choices and views of their product. The busi...
Globalization’s history is extremely diversified and began during the beginning of civilization. Now we live in a world that is constantly evolving, demanding people to use resources in locations that are very difficult to obtain certain resources. This could make it completely impossible to operate in these specific parts of the world. However, globalization allows people across the world to acquire much needed resources. Globalization creates the opportunity for businesses to take advantage and exploit the ability to take part of their business to a different country. Nevertheless, globalization is part of today’s society and will be involved in virtually all situations.
There are many real world examples of globalization. The first example is with the manufacturing of goods in one country and the sale of these goods in other countries. Many of these goods that are sold in America are manufactured in places like China, India and other overseas countries. Another example would be companies outsourcing work to other countries which will boost the economy for struggling countries by giving them much needed jobs. Many multinational businesses do business globally with satellite offices or call centers in multiple locations. There are times when we as customers, may call a company that we believe to be local, for customer service issues, and will talk to someone in a country overseas. Technology is another example of real world globalization. With today’s technology, cell phones, computers and the internet, it has become easier for businesses to interact with other businesses on an international scale. The internet is a major contributor to globalization, not only technologically but in other areas as well. Surfing the internet on your computer, you can keep up to date with news anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day, and 7 days a week. Worldwide fads and pop culture, such as YouTube, Facebook and MySpace, which...
Advances in technology have changed businesses dramatically, in particular the communication and information technology that are conducted in firms, which changed the appearance and pace of businesses over the past few decades. ICT in particular, has evolved a lot over the past 30 years; important information can be stored in computers rather than being in drawers enabling information to be transferred at a greater volume and speed (Guy, 2009). ICT has also expanded various forms of telecommunications and workload conducted in businesses, internet examples of this include: e-mails can be used to communicate with others...
