Recommended: Negative impact of globalisation

Eight years ago, my parents surprise my sister and I with a family cruise to Europe. The itinerary of the cruise was Greece and Egypt. I remember being surprised to see that Egypt had a McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken and many of other American goods. What I did not realize is the reason behind this contributed to globalization. Globalization has been referred to as the “Increasing unification of the world’s economic order through reduction of such barriers to international trade as tariffs, export fees, and import quotas” (Wentz). Globalization has made an opportunity for countries to come together as one for one important goal, which is to improve the global economy. Nike, for example was exposed for the poor working conditions and low pay of their Indonesian workers. While yes, they are employing people who otherwise would not have a job; there is no excuse in abusing foreign workers and providing them with low wages (Collins). Many companies get away with this because foreign countries offer lower operation costs. Another disadvantage in globalization is the lack of concern for environmental issues and natural resources. The World Trade Organization actively gets involved in any mismanagement of these matters. Many problems could be solved if country leaders and representatives get more involved to punish those corporations who are abusing the system by not providing decent working conditions and pay.
There are so many more advantages and disadvantages to globalization. Globalization while not perfect does offer positive benefits such as improving global economy by providing employment opportunities for under-developed and poor countries. It also provides opportunities for producers by making a profit and the consumer being able to purchase a wide variety of products. Unity is what brings this world together and while globalization is not the perfect system, like it or not, it has already affected the world globally, which is why I feel strongly that globalization is positive for the
