Globalization is the spread and integration of ideas and cultures that both positively and negatively impact the world. Many examples throughout history have demonstrated both the negative, and positive aspects of globalization. Although globalization has a positive impact on the world with new technologies and cultures, overall it has a negative impact o the world because of the gap it creates between the rich and poor, terrible opportunities available for the poor, and the horrible conditions that come along with it. Poor people of third world countries have to take jobs from US companies that pay about two dollars a week in order to survive. As shown in the cartoon “I Bring You Opportunity”, big US companies offer horrible jobs to third world laborers, which are always taken. (Document 5) Because these laborers are now poor in their countries they must take any job they can get, even if it means working in poor conditions as well as getting payed about two dollars a week. “Are My Hands Clean”, a song performed by Sweet Honey in the Rock, supports the idea that thousands of hundreds of people around the world must work in sweatshops, products “Move on…leave the third world for the last time”, after dozens of times. (Document 7) Products that people make all around the world travel to so many different places so that globalized nations can get them, and most nations don’t even care where they are coming from. A factory in Bangladesh collapsed due to poor conditions, killing thousands of people, and nobody is doing anything to help the workers be safe at the place they work. Instead of other advanced countries stepping in and solving the problem and creating change, everyone pretends it didn’t happen or they don’t care because it wasn’t where they live.
