Global warming has been a major concern and has greatly affected the environment around the world for years. Andrew Revkin stated in a New York Times article entitled “A Closer Look at Climate Panel’s Findings on Global Warming Impacts” that climate change throughout the 21st century will lead to increases in ill-health in many regions, as compared to a baseline without climate change. There have been a number of debates regarding this controversial topic, though most of the scientific community can recognize the existence of global warming. Many often question if this effect on the environment is caused by human activity or natural cycles. About 95 percent of scientific studies prove that global warming is essentially caused by man. Although among scientists there is a consensus, all people do not believe it to be true that society contributes to global warming by enforcing the use of electric cars rather than combustible vehicles that give off greenhouse gases and potentially harm the environment. Global warming describes the abnormal temperature change heating up our environment. Climate change is induced by green house gasses such as methane, carbon dioxide, and nitrous oxide. These gases are good when used in appropriate quantities. Methane is emanated from farm animals during their digestive process and is commonly found in swamp gas and exhaust. Carbon dioxide can be found in aerosol cans, hairspray in both aerosol and non-aerosol cans, furniture polishers and cleaners, etc. Nitrous oxide is in laughing gas used at dentist’s offices to keep patients calm during oral surgeries and is sometimes used in scientific studies. The majority of greenhouse gasses come from fossil fuels. Fossil fuels contribute to about 90 percent of... ... middle of paper ... ...xation on citizens of the United States. Citizens would use that money given to buy their electric car due to the expense compared to the cars used today. It has been demonstrated that although among scientists there is a consensus, all people do not believe it to be true that society contributes to global warming by enforcing the use of electric cars rather than combustible vehicles that give off greenhouse gases and potentially harm the environment. Transportation through electric cars has proven to be a viable substitute to the environmentally damaging combustible vehicles being currently used. Although among scientists there is a consensus, all people do not believe it to be true that society contributes to global warming by enforcing the use of electric cars rather than combustible vehicles that give off greenhouse gases and potentially harm the environment.
The entire world contributes to the carbon emissions but there are ways we can use less gases to help decrease the amount we use. One way is carpooling. Carpooling can help decrease the amount of carbon emissions we make by having less cars on the road to make carbon emissions. Carpooling also saves you money. Other ways are using alternative fuel sources. Some alternative fuel sources are biodiesel, ethanol, hydrogen etc. There are also cars that use other things like electricity or less fuel. These can be cheaper than just petroleum and less harmful to the environment. “HEVs [hybrid electric vehicle] typically achieve better fuel economy and have lower fuel costs than similar conventional vehicles. For example, the 2016 Honda Civic Hybrid has an EPA combined city-and-highway fuel economy estimate of 45 miles per gallon, while the estimate for the conventional 2015 Civic (four cylinder, automatic) is 35 miles per gallon” afdc. In this day and age we are getting better at carbon emissions and fuel usage but we have a long way to go to achieve almost no carbon emissions, if that will ever
The topic of global warming has been looming over our guilty shoulders since the early 1900’s. Transportation is the top contributor of greenhouse gas emissions which forms a barrier in the ozone, trapping in heat and heating our planet to unforeseen temperatures, much like a greenhouse. Over 225 billion gallons of gasoline is burned for transportation in the United States alone (CNN 2013.) All the harmful emissions from vehicles are starting to add up and scientists are watching the ice caps...
In order to first convince a wide majority of people that something needs to be done to stop the destruction of our environment, people first need to know exactly what is harmful about gasoline vehicles. In the United States, approximately 6.6 tons of greenhouse gases are emitted per person every year. Most of the greenhouse gas emi...
I bet you didn't know that the first cars made were all mostly electric. But as time passed gas powered cars became more popular through the years. There were few if any electric cars available as timed moved on. Everyone believed that gas powered vehicles were more convenient than the electric powered ones. I believe that gas powered vehicles are better because gas powered cars have more function ability. The range that electric vehicles have is poor compared to gas vehicles. Electric vehicles don't function very well when the weather is cold. You'll need to charge your car pretty much every night. You are only going to be able to go 80 mph. If you go up a big hill your range goes down. electric vehicles (rather ev's) do pollute but they don't pollute the same way that gas cars pollute.
Inventers are trying their best to lower the chances of our global climate changing so much. Every year 15 million gas powered cars are sold around the world. When people use gasoline powered cars, the fumes from the exhausts rises into Earth’s atmosphere and helps destroy our ozone layer. The ozone layer helps keep UV rays from beating directly on our skin. The ozone has a cavity or small hole appearing in the middle of it, which mean it can’t block UV rays. Fumes from the car play a huge part in this catastrophe. While the hole gradually increases, more heat is allowed into our atmosphere which makes Earth’s temperature rise. To solve this predicament we can stop using gasoline and diesel powered vehicles. Electric cars can eliminate this huge issue with our planet and its
Global warming is caused by greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2). Greenhouse gases can destroy Ozone air layer that shields dangerous waves from sunlight like ultraviolet wave. The result of that hazardous waves able to down to the ground too much and the earth get higher temperature. There are many organizations are trying to create technologies that can reduce the greenhouse gases such as the Nissan automobile. Nissan Leaf is a model of electric cars that Nissan created for decreasing releasing amount of greenhouse gases. Electric cars use electricity for transportation, so when drivers are driving the cars on the road, they will not release any carbon dioxide. However, the electricity that electric cars use for recharging comes
Climate change, otherwise known as global warming, has grown more apparent in recent years, with increased natural disasters, significantly warmer temperatures and unreasonably long seasons. Global warming is one of the main concerns that scientists have been researching for the past century. Scientific evidence shows that global warming is caused by human behaviors. Due to the amount of human-induced carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that have been released into the air, the earth is becoming a highly poisonous place to live on. Earth’s climate has been constantly changing ever since the Industrial Revolution, when innovations began and factories were built, which emitted mass air pollution. As more technological advances continued the years after, the amount of carbon dioxide in the air also increased. According to the UPI Space Daily News, “Global emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) - the main cause of global warming - increased by 45% between 1990 and 2010, and reached an all-time high of 33 billion tonnes in 2010” (Writers 1). The 1900s through the 2000s is the time period in which humans caused the most air pollution by creating vehicles and other industrial machinery. In the contemporary time period, human activities that contribute to climate change consist of hydraulic fracturing, rice cultivation, the increase of fossil fuel burning, and the rise of deforestation.
Electricity production is one of the factors contributing to climate change this is responsible for more than 25% of CO2 emissions. The modern car accounts for about 20% of fossil fuel released in the
Rather recently, within the past ten years, SUVs have become a more predominant force in the society of automobiles. People of a certain social status seem to be the ones who purchase SUVs with an increased frequency. They have many features that are sold with them to entice consumers into buying them. McKibben presents his readers with a study done by the International Panel on Climate Change, which tells them that if we continue to burn fuel at the current speed, the earth's temperature will increase four to eleven degrees before the end of the century. The results of this study should alarm SUV buyers of the damages that a fuel inefficient vehicle causes to the ozone layer. McKibben states that the damage that CO2 has caused to the ozone layer has already reduced the thickness of artic ice to 40 percent from what it was 40 years ago. He also gives the readers a startling fact that Polar Bears are unable to feed on their main food supply and the warm waters are killing coral reefs. Due to these increased temperatures, sea level is rising and in 1998 high sea levels caused the people of Bangladesh to suffer through thigh-deep waters. But why are SUVs of so much concern when it comes to these matters? It is mainly because SUVs are one of the most fuel inefficient vehicles...
In our modern society, nearly every person above the age of 16 drives a car, and I'm sure there are those that drive other things like cars too, such a tractors and combines that would be used for farming. All these cars giving off toxic emissions is clearly bad for the environment, it adds to the pollution that has already been instilled in the air from other sources, like large factories spewing smoke into the air. Thankfully people were able to realize that not only driving gas powered cars was bad, but that there are alternatives. The one solution to this that everyone thinks about are electric cars. The common misconception of electric cars though, is that they are "good" for the environment, which is clearly not true. You might say, "Sure,
Many hazardous pollutants escape from the internal combustion of the engine. Conventional gas powered vehicles use irreplaceable fossil fuels to run. When burned, these fossil fuels create numerous toxins like carbon dioxide (Larminie 246). Carbon dioxide is considered the main greenhouse gas that creates the foundation for global warming (hybridcars.com, pollutants). This harmful pollutant may not have a serious effect on people at first, but it does have consequential effects on the environment that in turn put people in danger (Nutramed.com). The major consequence caused by global warming is the rise in average temperature. This results in a domino...
The seriousness of global warming effects both the environment and the people living in it. The question is how do Americans effect the environment and what can we do to fix it? Americans everyday use automobiles as a form of transportation, and although it may seem harmless, the use of these cars are proving to be detrimental in the end. Author Margaret Kriz (2006) states that, “the vast majority of scientists who study Earth's climate agree that the planet is warming, and they blame the greenhouse gases that accumulate in the a...
In conclusion, global warming is not a theory but in fact a phenomenon. Steps must be taken in order to reduce environmental degradation that is caused by human activities, which continue to disrupt the earth’s natural cycles. People must put aside their own ignorance and inform themselves of the facts of climate change. If we continue to categorize climate change as a myth, there is no chance of returning the earth to its most prosperous for both the environment and all species including humans. The facts that support the existence of global warming are not concealed. Everyone is able to look outside and see the unpleasant change that the environment has undergone.
Electric cars help lower emissions because they have completely clean motors. As time progresses, emission standards rise and will become harder to meet for automakers. Electric motors will always have zero emissions and auto makers won't have to spend extra money to make their engines cleaner and more fuel efficient. Originally, when the internal combustion engine was invented, pollution wasn't a problem. After hundreds of years and the many combustion engines created, all the exhaust has built up. Today, pollution is one of the largest problems in our environment. Every year the average miles driven rises for everyone. When this rises, the pollution rises as well. Toni Marzotto, in "The Evolution of Public Policy: and the Environment," explains how air pollution will continue to keep on increasing:
One of the most substantial problems in the world today is global warming. This gradual warming of the earth is in occurrence at an extremely slow rate but it is happening. Many scientists believe that as human’s work and release greenhouse gases into the earth’s atmosphere, it can become dangerous for the long lasting life of humans and our environment. “Unless we take immediate action, the impacts of global warming will continue to intensify, grow ever more costly and damaging, and increasingly affect the entire planet - including you, your community, and your family” (“Global Warming Impacts”). Everyone should be knowledgeable about global warming and the dangers that it brings to our planet. This essay will examine
