The readings on social media share one clear idea; that the purpose of social media is a creative solution to a global communication issue. We now see more people reading their news stories in 140 characters or less, or watching five minute clips of the morning news on Facebook or Snapchat. The common theme through all social media is speed, the speed at which people have the ability to receive and digest information. The faster the social media the higher the interest grows for that websites, or phone application. This is because people are obsessed with gaining as much information on a topic in as little time as possible so they can spend the rest of their time with other tasks.
Social media has been around since humans could start communicating through words or symbols. Even though the majority of social media definitions have specifically incorporated the internet in their descriptions, social media can be through something as simple as the fridge at home where people leave notes for others.
