November 5, 2011, a crisis three years in the making erupted at Penn State University. PSU’s former assistant football coach and children’s charity founder Gerald Arthur “Jerry” Jerry was indicted on 45 charges of sex crimes again boys. (VIERANOV, 2011) Allegations started back in 2009 by a student at Central Mountain High School in Clinton County, Pennsylvania of sexual abuse. The student stated Jerry inappropriately touched him over a 4 years. The big question is what type of leadership behavior and power did Jerry have that give him enough influence that resulted in a firestorm which cost PSU’s president Graham Spanier and iconic football coach Joe Paterno their jobs along with perjury charges against senior vice-president for business and finance Gary Schultz and Tim Curley the athletic director. We shall look at how his association with PSU and his charity allowed him access to the community’s children for years without anyone acting in an ethical manner and reporting the claims despite multiple complaints or investigating the complaints. Through research I will explain how Jerry form an organization using PSU as a wall of protection during the duration of the investigation and a form of control to lure and eventually assault …show more content…

His welcoming and likable personality would make you trust the person him. He was caring and loving and mainly towards the children and that’s what the charity was supposed to be all about. Most of his value came from his track record with PSU, when you brought into Jerry and the charity you brought into PSU and their power and fame. In some cases Jerry could be seen as the way in for most if the young boy’s looking to play football. In other cases Jerry’s name had a monetary value due to the fact that he could get money based on that fact alone. One was by creating and hosting various gathering like the golf
