George Washington is a very important man of our history known to be one of our founding fathers. Washington was born on February 22nd, 1732 in bridges Creek, a colony of Virginia, British America. George served in 1752 to 1758 in the British militia, 1775 to 1783 and the Continental Army in 1798 to 1799 in the United states Army. He was commander in chief during the American Revolutionary War. And 1787 Washington helped establish and draft the United States Constitution. He has always been strongly admired by Americans during his lifetime and now in the present time Because of his many contributions to our country and the people living in it. The Tomb of the unknown is a memorial where unidentified soldiers from WWI, WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam war. On Memorial day 1951 four unknown soldiers were dug up from four different American World War 1 cemeteries in France. Surgeon Edward F. Younger who was injured and given the distinguished service medal was just like one of the unknown soldiers. Just like she was done at the city hall in charlon-sur-Marne France. He chose the soldier by placing a spray of white roses on the casket. He chose the second casket to the right and it was sent to the United States on the USS Olympia. On November 11th 1921 the unknown soldier of World War 1 was buried at Arlington Cemetery.The sarcophagus at the Tomb of the Unknown was completed and opened to the public on April 9th 1932.The sarcophagus stands atop a hill looking over Washington DC and It consists of 7 rectangle marble pieces with a combined weight of 79 tons. It was furnished by the Vermont marble company of Danby, Vermont and was quarried in Yule, Colorado.The sarcophagus at the Tomb of the Unknown soldiers is a memorial for the unknowns from World War 1, World War 2, and the Korean War. It also represents sacrifice and loss of those who fell during the wars.On the west panel it says “Here rest in in honored glory an American Soldier known but to God.”The North and South panels are divided into three sections and on each section are 3 inverted wreaths. The East panel displays a composite of 3 figures, commemorative of the spirits of the allies of WWI.The Tomb of the Unknown is guarded 24/7 365 days a year. On the 3rd of August 1956 president Dwight D Eisenhower passed a bill to memorialize unknown soldiers from World War 1 and the Korean War.
