George W. Bush was a decent president, but he kinda sucked. He was the 43rd President of the United States. He served for eight years. He and his dad, George H. W. Bush were the 2nd father-son duo to both become President, after John Adams and John Quincy Adams. There were several significant issues that defined George W. Bush’s legacy. One of the largest was 9/11. 9/11 is so widely known that I’m not talking about it. The No Child Left Behind Act, Hurricane Katrina, and a summary of George W. Bush’s overall presidency are included. The No Child left Behind Act is extremely important to today’s schools because it means lots of unnecessary and time consuming standardized testing. Many teachers experienced curriculum changes, and had to teach …show more content…
He just kinda sat back to watch it all play out, while people were stranded on rooftops, and the Superdome was beyond crowded with people forced out of their houses because of the broken levees. Bush waited too long to send help, and when he finally did, some people thought he could’ve done more to help them. New Orleans is still recovering from Katrina, and it was twelve years ago. Bush should’ve and could’ve done more to help them when they needed it most. Most of New Orleans was under multiple feet of water, and he was an idiot and let the people die from starvation and dehydration, because he was too busy doing “other stuff” to pay attention to his own …show more content…
Bush’s presidency wasn’t a very good time for the US, because at the beginning there was 9/11, when he has his highest approval rate, because people rallied around him to stop the terrorists. His approval rate declined after that because of the Iraq War, and Hurricane Katrina. His presidency ended with the US falling into a recession, and the housing market was also in a really bad spot. He left office with a thirty-three percent approval rate, one of the lowest of all time. He kinda sucked as a president, and followed in his dad’s legacy of just being an okay president. In conclusion, George W. Bush had a couple of major, somewhat catastrophic events and a fair amount of controversy to deal with, and he handled it pretty well, at least most of it he did. He had a few miscues here and there, but every president has their moments. Overall, George W. Bush wasn’t well liked, except in the beginning when 9/11 happened. After that, his approval rating went steadily down throughout the rest of his eight years as
43rd President of the United States, George Bush, in his speech, “9/11 Address to the Nation” addresses the nation about the day of September 11, 2001. Bush’s purpose is to convey the events of September 11, 2001 and what was and will be done about them. He adopts a serious yet somber tone in order to appeal to the strong and emotional side of the public and to his listeners around the world.
Ronald Wilson Reagan served two terms as the 40th president of the United States of America. Reagan was known for having a strong faith in the goodness of people. In college he was known as, “the jack of all trades” for excelling in everything he did (“Life Before the Presidency”). President Reagan’s beliefs gave him lots of respect from citizens around the world. One of his main beliefs was that peace comes with strength. I believe that Ronald Reagan was a great president because of his leadership qualities, domestic policies, and foreign policies.
Even with the negative and positive functions of No Child Left Behind, there are many areas that still need to ironed out. Under the Obama administration several states have received a waiver from No Child Left Behind, “with this waiver students will still be tested annually. But starting this fall, schools in those states will no longer face the same prescriptive actions spelled out under No Child Left Behind” (Feller & Hefling, 2012). Since 2007, the law has been up for review, but due to opponents of the law there has not been an agreement reached and the law continues to stress our schools and children out. We can only hope that when this law is reviewed and agreed upon that it really is in the best interest of our children and the nation as a whole.
The implementation of the No Child Left Behind Act applied a market approach to school reform as a way of improving the school system. This new law promised an era of high standards, testing, and accountability in
Despite the unpopular opinions of his foreign policies, his domestic policies greatly benefited the American people. His actions towards change for the Civil Rights Movement, War on Poverty and the environment has had great impact on the Unites States then and till this day.
George Walker Bush is an American politician and businessman who served as the 43rd President of the United States from 2001 to 2009, and the 46th Governor of Texas from 1995 to 2000. He was one of the most hated presidents to the Democratic Party. Many people blamed president Bush for the war in Iraq and the death of the many troops that were send over to Afghanistan to fight. One of the most controversial events that happen while President Bush was in office was hurricane Katrina. Many people believe that president Bush did not do enough to help the citizen of New Orleans, because majority of the citizen were middle and low class citizen. Why would President Bush do
Today’s leading news stories range from sports to overseas affairs, and from these Americans must decide what is important to our nation. Governor George W. Bush tries to make this decision a little easier in his announcement of candidacy on June 12, 1999 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Like most candidates in an election, Bush’s main purpose is to present his ideas to a large audience and convince them that he is the man that can change the presidency. Governor Bush offers his opinion on free trade, our current military power, and drawing a moral line in politics. Bush speaks elegantly to his intended audience, which consists of his loyal supporters and those interested in changing America’s political scene with a “compassionate president.” At the same time he tends to exclude people who haven’t kept up with his agenda or that are not in the market for significant political transformation. Overall, Bush gives sufficient information to back up his claims. Only reading the speech would not indicate this, but exploring his website provides background information and family history, and is all done with a friendly, inviting tone. The effort made by Bush to run and manage this campaign exemplifies a caring and committed candidate and produces an effective rhetorical argument.
George H. W. Bush became the 41st president of the United States of America on January 20, 1989 by succeeding Ronald Reagan. He promised to American that there will be no new taxes. In his Inaugural Address he pledged in "a moment rich with promise" to use American strength as "a force for good." During his presidency he past many bill such as Clean air act which focused on the things reducing urban smog, and curbing acid rain. The other act was the disabilities act, which illegal for employers and employees to discriminate against the disabled ones. In his presidency he had many difficult trials. One of his first hard trials was. Saddam Hussein invaded the city of Kuwait in August 1990. He was able to get Saddam Hussein out of the oil rich country. This is seen to be one of the greatest success during his presidential success. Even though, president job isn't a easy job it requires lots of skill and knowledge and you have to be able to understand what your people want's and how you can help them.
W. Bush was elected as the forty-first President of the United States from 1989-1993. Growing up in Massachusetts, he ended Yale and became a businessman and politician. Before his Presidency, "He became involved in politics soon after founding his own oil company, serving as a member of the House of Representatives and Director of Central Intelligence, among other positions." (Wikipedia) He also enlisted into the Navy due to Pearl Harbor and delayed his attendance to Yale because of it. To get elected, he pushed foreign policies such as military operations in Panama and the Persian Gulf, Germany, and the Soviet Union. In spite of his foreign policy success, he experienced economic recession, budget deciliter, and struggle with Congress which is why he eventually lost to Bill
During Bush Administration there was a large budget deficit due to unforeseen circumstances. Before George W. Bush take office as president, Bill Clinton developed budget surplus and eliminated budget deficit. This was achieved by collecting taxes and revenue from Social Security, Medicare and other programs. However, it was returned to budget deficit when Bush became president. During those years there were catastrophic events happening such as 9/11, Iraq War, oil shock, and other natural disasters. On September 11, 2001, there was a deadly terrorist attack that killed thousands of people. It was a tragic event that “resulted in extensive death and destruction, triggering major U.S. initiatives to combat terrorism and defining the presidency
After George Bush had left his presidency almost five years ago on January 20th, 2009, the former president's decisions are still being discussed about. This controversial debate about Bush's actions will either place him as a "James Buchanan" or as a "Theodore Roosevelt". When much light is shined on Bush's advances to America and countries of the Middle East, he is easily witnessed as a modern Roosevelt. Theodore Roosevelt sated: "The only man who makes no mistake is the man who does nothing." Bush had faced strong criticism for his work; however his contributions surpassed his errors. These contributions can be viewed as the 43rd American President was able to liberate both Afghanistan and Iraq which brought fundamental freedoms to millions; he had increased the Middle Eastern countries’ GDP, and brought rights to girls which suppressed strong social barriers. Based on information from George W. Bush's memoirs, Decision Points, along with additional data, the U.S President will be vindicated over history as he was able to bring forth democracy in the autocratic governments of Afghanistan and Iraq.
FDR faced many problems during his presidency; some he handled poorly while most others most were handled in a way that benefited the nation and the public. Roosevelt’s reputation of national debt was overshadowed by the amount of things he did to help the American work force, the economy, and change of public moral. People were feeling better and working harder, based on the Puritanism way of life that Roosevelt unintentionally created. A working environment in America that expressed hard work and good values was prominent. FDR was a great president and will always have the title of best 100 days in office.
Known as the most charismatic president George W. Bush served his time as the president of the U.S. from 2001-2009. George grew up as the eldest of 6 kids (two sisters, 3 brothers) unfortunately one of his sisters died of leukemia when she was a child. George always was enthusiastic, & he was quiet the athlete! He was in football, baseball, rugby, basketball & was the head cheerleader! George started presidency fairly young, he was voted class president in 7th grade. Once finished high school George chose to take after his father, he decided to go to Harvard & get his master of business administration. He also graduated from Yale to top it off! Later in his years when he was 31 years of age, he met his wife Laura Welch, within only 3 months of knowing each other they were married. Laura is said to be “the best first lady” due to her elegance & how she always kept herself in the best possible manner. Not long after marriage Laura and George were blessed with two beautiful twin gals Jenna and Barbara. (Johnson, 2012) As wonderful as this life sounds sadly enough there were some harsh difficulties in the family. Sir Bush struggled strongly with alcoholism, but after a crazy drunken night George woke up & decided to stop. He never struggled after that night again. George and the family slowly but surely came to the Lord. (GOLDMAN, 2010) Sir George W. Bush was a good man who may have made some mistakes in life and presidency but all & all he was a good leader who had good intentions. He loved and he cared.
With the tragic events of 9/11 more than 2000 people died with this tragic event and impacted many lives in and in America's culture. However at the same time he brought awareness to the nation's security didn't alter the beliefs of how people think of each other.
Though Bush is known as one of the most hated presidents in the U.S. history no one denied him of this. Bush made a downed and out country rise from the ashes of 9/11 and encouraged them to never give up. Because of this the U.S. today is one of the major countries involved in stopping terrorism. As our recent fights with the ISIS terrorist group show Bush’s war will continue to live on. Bush’s war on terror is considered his number on accomplishment because of his effective pursuit in doing this (Michale Ewin). I believe even though he was voted a horrible president it’s hard to say this is a bad
