The Bush legacy-How will George W Bush be remembered? Every commander in chief of the United States is remembered for just few seminal events or moments of their presidency. Bill Clinton will forever be associated with sex scandals despite the golden economy he presided over. John F Kennedy is considered a hero because of his handling of one moment in time (the Cuban missile crisis). George W Bush is no different. Two events have ruled his time in office and I suspect they will be his legacy. I am of course talking about 9/11 and the resulting war in Iraq. Bush’s presidency has been one of extremes as he has received both the highest and lowest approval ratings since polling began, ranging 90% immediately after the September 11, 2001 attacks, to 28% in June 2008. It is perhaps easy to remember George Bush as a poor orator, someone who finished bottom of his class at Yale, basically a unremarkable man who should never have been president. In a time when the incumbent president is being forgotten in favour of the election race of the century it is simple to remember Bush as a thouroghly unpopular president who has stained America for the worse. However unintelligent, uneloquent George W Bush united a nation in the days following the 11th september 2001.His rousing sentiments spoken from the rubble of the world trade centre with the brave firefighters by his side showed a strong leader who loved his country. His reaction to 9/11 is essential in determining his legacy because it is an event that will be talked and learnt about in years to come. It is etched onto american’s hearts and minds and therefore for many so is George Bush. Once the war in Iraq is over the image of the falling towers will remain and the president will be remembered for handling this crisis. It is likely the atrocities in Iraq will seem distant to Americans as the ones still affecting the vietnamese every day do. Bush appeared strong capable and resolute after 9/11 and this I predict will have more staying power than the unpopularity regarding a middle- eastern war. When the president speaks about the terrorist attacks he appears to be deeply affected by them which speaks to Americans, it gives them solidarity and unity. As his press secretary recently said "The president thinks about 9/11 every single day when he wakes up and before he goes to bed.
A successful president’s legacy is measured by his ability to address issues of public concern, rid the government of corruption, create reliable foreign affairs with existing countries and most importantly, act as a voice of the people. However, it appears that Warren G. Harding was more concerned with striving to satisfy many of his cabinet members priorities, without weighing the negative consequences it could have on his presidency. Additionally, his successor Calvin Coolidge was caught in the web of political corruption and sexual scandals that had surrounded Harding’s presidency. Many historians have accurately depicted Warren G. Harding as one of the least consequential president’s due in part to his various political scandals that defined his term; whereas Calvin Coolidge has been wrongly tarnished with the same reputation as his predecessor without sufficient evidence.
Bush opens his speech by acknowledging the events of September 11, and those that lost the lives of loved ones and to those that gave their life trying to save others in the buildings. He appeals to those that remain strong by saying that, “These acts of mass murder were intended to frighten our nation into chaos and retreat. But they have failed. Our country is strong.” His use of pathos helps Bush to calm and control the public in order to keep the country together. This
The United States of America has experienced many tragic events in its history. The attack on pearl harbor and the terrorist attack on September 1, 2001 happen to be the most significant. These both tragic events affected the lives of many. These both events had a quite both different and same presidential response. These historical events changed the way people would live in everyday life for a while. Both of these tragedies made history and will never be forgotten and all of those innocent lives that were taken away on December 7th, 1941 and September 11, 2001.
The foreign affairs spectacle was showing Bush as the perfect president with masterful leadership skills and a powerhouse team. In the other hand the domestic spectacle display Bush as a confused leader with a colorless team. The foreign policy team was seem as cool, intelligent and worthy. What it boost the foreign policy spectacle was the Operation Desert Storm which lacked on destroying the enemy, but as military display, it provided Americans with numerous scenes to cheer. Otherwise the domestic Bush was awful, especially when it came to economics. The only economic plan he ever put forward without any problem was a cut in the capital gains tax rate that would only benefit wealthy investors. His economic team was dim, anyone notice them and barely registered in the public consciousness. He was completely disengaged from the ordinary people and
These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve.” George Bush was president at the time when the 9/11 attack happened. George Bush wrote this quote for the thousands of lives that were hugely affected. To the kids worried about their parents while they are in school, to the worried husbands and wives, and brothers and sisters. The 9/11 attack did not only change the lives of people who lost a loved one, and the people who were there where the planes hit, but also people who just saw what was happening and people who heard about it, cried. The increase and patriotism and the rise in security will make people feel more secure and protected but it will never change the the amount of people affected by 9/11. Millions of people around the world know about what happened on September 11th, 2001. Millions of people will be changed
Now let's look at when Bush was president, What was the big thing that happened during his time? 9/11 is that thing, that event that changed the world but, did Bush try to prevent it at all? About a year ago Donald Trump has said many ugly untruths but he also said ugly truth’s. One of those ugly truth’s he said was that Bush deserves responsibility for the fact that the world trade center came down in his time (The Atlantic). This is however true because bush had many ways of preventing this event from happening but he did nothing. In 2001 when Bush went into office CIA Director George Tenet and Richard Clarke were both warned
September 11th, 2001 marks the longest and most tragic day in American history. It started off as a normal morning, kids waking up to go to school, people getting to work, and others just taking a morning run, As if nothing was going to happen. Then all of a sudden at 8:46 Flight 11 hits the north tower of the World Trade Center in Ney York City. There were 767 on board and 20,000 gallons of jet fuel. It hit on the 80th floor out of 110 stories. Imagine hearing a big sound of an explosion while at work? At first people thought it was just a miss-guided plane that had hit the top of the tower. Everyone was rushing out of his or her office buildings and people were trying to evacuate the world trade as fast as they could. Some were told that they did not have to leave the second building because it was just a mislead plane and it was okay. Then at 9:03 a second plane hits the south tower. By this time the newscast had been recording, so everyone saw what was happening. People were running from it and the streets were crowed with people trying to leave. People all over the world were freaking out because no one was really sure what had happened. After the second plane hitting they started researching the flight and who was on it. While looking that up they started to recognize some names, they pieced together that it was a terrorist attack. Involved with Alkyda because they recognized names from the people that were on the flights. During this time Bush was the president of the United States, he had been in Sarasota with a group of kids listening to them read and learn in a local school. Bush had no idea the second plane was hit because he had been in this classroom not able to answer phone calls. He had no idea what was going on. ...
The event that occurred on September 11, 2001 was a tragic and heartbreaking scene for the American people. Americans were distraught and an outbreak of fear and devastation swept the nation. Conspiracies have alluded to blaming the government for this catastrophe; however, some controversies put the sole blame on George W. Bush. Many Americans used him as a scapegoat due to emotional instability or timorous feelings towards the attacks. In response to the attacks that took place on September 11, 2001, George W. Bush positively influenced and reassured the American people that America was strong and that the United States would stop at nothing to find who was responsible for such acts.
Imagine waking up to the sound of a big bang, people screaming for help and children crying. Everyday somewhere around the world a battle is going on and many people are losing their lives. Our nation has had to go through some horrible tragedies before. Pearl Harbor and 9/11 are both tragedies that have changed the lives of many people. The different responses of both presidents that were running the white house at the time those catastrophes occurred delivered a speech that gave hope to our people when they were despairing. These strikes were a surprise to our nation and were both caused by different reasons. After 9/11 it took people a lot of time to recover both mentally and physically. Our government made a promise to those people who proved themselves to be heroes during the 9/11 attack, but sadly the government has not been able to live up to that promise.
George W. Bush quoted in results to 9/11, “Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve”. On September 11, 2001, there was a vicious terrorist attack on the United States of America. Al-Qaida a terrorist group from the Middle East, decided violate what America stands for: freedom, liberty, and the rights of men and women of all races, backgrounds, and beliefs. On the dreadful morning of September 11, 2001, they hijacked four US planes with knives and attacked the nation in a horrific way. Two planes hit the Twin Tower, collapsing both buildings in New York City World Trade Center. The third plane crashed into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. The last plane was going to crash into another building in Washington, D.C., but the passengers stopped the hijackers, and the plane crashed into a field instead. Throughout this horrific ordeal former president George W. Bush remain calmed, trying to draft out a plan of whom to blame for the attack. The Bush administration has a lot of dark secrets and connection to the Saudi’s before and after September 11, 2001. The United States government was warned prior the attack directly from Osama Bin Laden, in which the warnings were ignored.
George w. Bush has a legacy that will forever be remembered in the Political eye. President Bush was one of the very few candidates that were one of the most qualified candidates to assume office as President. His career was based off of both domestic politics and foreign affairs. Many people wouldn’t particularly say Bush was the best President, due to him lacking in domestic affairs, but he was very successful in foreign affairs. Not only was President Bush an icon to many people, he put together a strong team of advisors, including James Baker, Dick Cheney, Brent Scowcroft, and Colin Powell. Together they built an empire that accomplished an abundance of amazing things that only benefited the United States; Such as, helping the U.S. navigate the end of the Cold War. He also led a world-wide alliance of countries which successfully forced Iraq to forfeit from Kuwait in the Persian Gulf War. This is why I believe that George w. Bush showed political courage.

(patriotic 2nd paragraph) George W. Bush goes on to say that we as civilians shouldn't worry about the attack that we encountered on September 11, 2001. He makes it clear to every one of the United States that the people who fight for our country are taking care of it. We the people need to stay calm and relaxed.
When looking back at the legacy of the Presidents, how can you tell what they will be remembered the most for? Especially when most people can’t agree on it. Or if most people don’t even like the President at the time. President Obama did several things during both terms of his Presidency. One of the first things were becoming the first African American President in the United States history in 2008. During his campaign, “he campaigned on the promise of hope for a better world; a more peaceful world which embraced open communication, plurality, and diversity.” When President Obama got elected there was some hope for the fellow Americans and there was
In my opinion, being a good leader firstly he should be able to take full advantage of favorable circumstance, able to rule the country under a chaotic situation. Besides he made attractive promises to gain popular support, skilled in using of propaganda, amoral. Moreover he should have the organizational ability and has the ambition to make his country powerful in the world. In addition, he could use his words to twist and manipulate the minds of people into believing that what he was saying. Using this power, he could get people to do anything for him, which prove his amorality. He should be skillful in carry out successful policy to bring the country to economic prospect, since economy is very important to a country.
