True role models are those who have the qualities that we would want to have in the near future and those who make us want to be a better person. They teach us more about ourselves and encourage us to make better choices. A role modle is not just someone who is successful, but someone who has had similar experiences that we have had. In the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee demonstrates that Atticus Finch is a true role model. Over the course of the novel, Atticus stands up for his beliefs, respects everyone regardless of who they are and behaves as a true father. Atticus is truly the ideal role model. Even though the odds are against him, Atticus Finch bravely stands up for his beliefs and morals. He does not let anyone stand in the way of his beliefs even if it were threatening his own life. By taking the Tom Robinson case, he proves that he is not a follower which serpates him from the rest of the town. He strongly states, “Our courts have their faults, as do any human institution, but in this country our courts are the great levelers, and in our courts all men are created equal.” (Lee 274). As you can see, Atticus stands up for righteousness and justice rather than going with the majority. He teaches his children these important values and he teaches them to keep their fists down and heads up in every situation they encounter. To illustrate, the event with Mrs. Dubose teaches Jem the true meaning of courage. Mrs. Dubose is an old lady who lives two doors up the street from the Finch's house. Since Jem decides to destroy Mrs. Dubose's flowers, Atticus teaches him that holding your head up and fists down is the best way. Another example was when Bob Ewell spat on Atticus' face because Atticus made Bob look like a fool ... ... middle of paper ... ...s usual disease. Why reasonable people go stark raving mad when anything involving a Negro comes up, is something I don't pretend to understand... I just hope that Jem and Scout come to me for their answers instead of listening to the town.” (Lee 117). This proves that Atticus truly cares for his children and wants the best for them. In conclusion, Atticus is truly a heroic role model. He is daring, wise and he is always there to save the day. This proves that Atticus stands up for his beliefs and he does not back down. Futhermore, he speaks from his heart and mind and gives good advice to his children. Generally speaking, role models and superheroes are not peopole who are successful or famous. They are people who set positive examples and they provide you with remarkable advice that you would use as you grow older. Atticus Finch is the definition of a role model.
