Genre Analysis: Help Drug addict get the help they need The United States is the land of the free, the home of the brave, and a place of opportunity. However, throughout the years, statistics have shown drug addiction to be a growing problem. Often times, these addictions go completely untreated. This is supported by the National Institute On Drugs. They stated that, “In 2013, an estimated 22.7 million Americans (8.6 percent) needed treatment for a problem related to drugs or alcohol, but only about 2.5 million people (0.9 percent) received treatment at a specialty facility.” With so many drug addicts going without any form of treatment, many need the support of others to recognize their addiction. Especially people who have family members or friends who are suffering with a drug addiction. The two genres are trying to reach a particular audience, who know, drug addicts and can provide moral support. Both of the genres realize that it is very hard for drug addicts to get off drugs on their own. These genres are making an argument that people in the drug addicts ' lives should give them the support on their path to getting off drug. In the spoken word video, Escape Addiction, the specific purpose of the video was to show the audience the power of support on a drug addict path off drugs. The photo, Drug Addiction, uses pathos appeal when the writing of the word helps in the cocaine. This shows the desperation of the person on drugs to get off drugs. Showing the audience, that addict need help to get off drugs. In the Spoken word, Escape Addiction, show a pathos appeal because it gives an example the audience connect with. This made the issue closer to home and relatable to the audience. Logos is a logical appeal, to connive that audience through reason and logic. Logos is used in the Escape Addiction, when the speaker makes it obvious that addicts need support to get off of drugs. The speaker shows in the poem that the addict was able to do get off drugs with the support of his family. In the photo logos is used by the use of the word help in the cocaine. This is a logical appeal because when some is asking for help or is struggling you help them get through it.
