It is amazing the word genocide has not been identified earlier in time. It is quite evident that it has been Practice with various controlling entities throughout history. It can be seen in the Peloponnesian War by statements giving by Thucydides”; He describes in his writings the slaughtering of people in Melos after refusing to surrender. Many references of various battles in ancient time would slaughter the men in the populace in the city, to display their dominance and show some traits of genocide. A good example in the battle of Greece during the Romans conflict; successful victory campaign would be the destruction of the city of Athens which include the dissemination of women and children. The Romans burn and destroy the city and killed the inhabitants to send a message to the surrounding communities. (Hoyer) They are other examples of genocide throughout history. (John Boardman).” We can even look back further in history and see evidences of genocide. The Hungarian conflict with the Roman Empire in 900's where to set out to destroy the Hungarian populace. In 900 AD the roman emperor wanting of the extermination of the Hungarians by the use of Genocide which in my opinion only unified the people to confront the overwhelming forces against them. A way to best described racial diversity is to understand the environment and location; best stated in this quote of Balkans. “The peoples of the Balkan Peninsula make up several racial groups. (R.D. Genocide...genocide happens quite often in the atrocious despicable place called earth; Like in the Holocaust, and in the trail of tears. The Holocaust was a racist act exploiting the Jews. The trail of tears was over the white man wanting more land, not caring about how this effects anyone else. Both events are based on racist bigotry. They are different but they're the same concept….
The word genocide was derived from the Greek root genos (people) and the Latin root cide (killing), and did not exist in the English language until 1944, which was the end of World War II (Power). According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, genocide is “the deliberate and systematic destruction of a racial, political, or cultural group.” Such violence occurred during the Holocaust and during the separation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The problems of ethnic cleansing and repression have become so prevalent in the last century that they have contributed to two world wars, over fourteen million deaths, and a new word. United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, said, “Far from being consigned to history, genocide and its ilk remain a serious threat. Not just vigilance but a willingness to act are as important today as ever.”
Genocide, the systematic and planned extermination of an entire national, racial, political, or ethnic group. From 1992-1995 that was happening in Bosnia-Herzegovina. In the Republic of Bosnia-Herzegovina, conflict between the three main ethnic groups, the Serbs, Croats, and Muslims, resulted in genocide committed by the Serbs against the Muslims in Bosnia.

As this book was written in segments over a stretched period of time, we must analyze this account of his life, the struggles and successes which took place, and the outcome of such record in order to appreciate the literary and historical value of America's Renaissance man, Benjamin Franklin.
After Elie Wiesel was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986, he gave an acceptance speech reflecting upon the true meaning of his novel and reflecting upon the crimes in our history. He revealed how “silence encourages the tormentor” while “indifference [is] the most insidious danger of all.” I find a lot of truth in these words and I agree with his assertion. Individuals tend to get overwhelmed by desperation, a sense of helplessness and fear in the face of acts, such as oppression and genocide. During these times, it is the responsibility of the world community to step in. This is proved to be true by the novel Night, the movie The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, and by the article called “A Secret Life.”
Africa has been an interesting location of conflicts. From the conflict between Ethiopia and Eritrea to the revolutionary conflict in Libya and Egypt, one of the greatest conflicts is the Rwandan Genocide. The Rwandan Genocide included two tribes in Rwanda: Tutsis and Hutus. Upon revenge, the Hutus massacred many Tutsis and other Hutus that supported the Tutsis. This gruesome war lasted for a 100 days. Up to this date, there have been many devastating effects on Rwanda and the global community. In addition, many people have not had many acknowledgements for the genocide but from this genocide many lessons have been learned around the world.
In every genocide, minorities and those who were seen as "different" or as the "other" were targeted and blamed for massive systemic issues in society. This includes religious minorities, or groups of people with religious beliefs different from the mainstream. In the holocaust, the main group that people think of getting murdered are Jewish people. A lot of Polish people were also killed within the holocaust. This includes ethnic and racial minorities, or groups of people who look and and sometimes dress differently in terms of skin color, and sometimes clothes. It is known that Hitler and the Nazis wanted to promote an “Aryan” race, an all-white all-German society. It is clear that he was willing to commit genocide on the basis of race, as well. In the Armenian genocide, the Ottoman empire killed people on the basis of being Armenian. This also actually includes members of the LGBT+ community. When 1937 arrived, Japanese soldiers raided China’s capital of Nanking and began to mass murder citizens. A sole leader of the Japanese Imperial Army was non-existent. There were many of people in power such as generals who allowed these behaviors to occur. Baron Koki Hirota, Foreign minister at the time, proceeded to do nothing while being well aware of the Japanese’s persecution of the Chinese. These unsympathetic murders of those who were thought to be Chinese soldiers as well as woman, children and elderly. This massacre lasted between the 1937 and 1938. Within this time 300,000 Chinese citizens were viciously killed. This genocide is called Rape of Nanking because of raping the woman before killing them. Most likely this group was selected because the second world war happened in Asia. This was significant because a country was able to kill half the population of another. I believe the reason of this Genocide was for Japan to take advantage of China while expand Japan. Most likely the Japanese wished to exterminate China’s entire population.
