Advancing our World If you had a choice on how to die, what would you chose, a bullet or to jump off a cliff? Either way both options have the same result. Our daily decisions are not this drastic but we have our opinions and have the right to exercise them. Genetically modified food products have sinister sound that might frighten the investors, but the truth about these products is not sinister, although it is controversial. There are two sides to GMO food products, weather one opposes it or accepts the changes that have been excepted into our society it’s up to them, but either way acceptance or resistance is a personal choice. GMO products have become more efficient for the farmers to spend less time and resources maintaining crops. These products are genetically modified to repel pests and therefore there would be no need for pesticides used. This will also cut down on the cost and maintenance. It also helps them to utilize more environmentally friendly planting techniques that cut down on soil erosion, greenhouse gas emission, and water use. With all of these advancements, we would also see a decrease in food prices which would help the economy. Also one in eight people do not have enough to eat, and with safe food production through genetically modified products numerous individuals benefit because of their low prices. GMO products can also contain more nutrients for our bodies and can affect our health. There are regulations and laws that also need to be obeyed when producing genetically modified products. In European Union states there are laws and regulations with labeling these modified. The states standards need to be meet before these products are sold to consumers. There are specific machineries that are used for this process and these technologies have been around for the past twenty years, and today more than half of the food we consume in the United States contain ingredients that have been genetically modified. Genetically modified food products have been tested and are known to be safe since there are no negative health effects associated with their use. These agencies and organizations include the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the American Medical Association, the World Health Organization, Health Canada, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the National Academy of Sciences, and many other influential
