Humans have walked our Earth for thousands of years, learning, growing, and evolving every step along the way. Humans have evolved immensely for the course of human history, these evolutionary feats are what keeps our species thriving, without evolution our species would have been wiped out thousands of years ago. Evolution is generally a change in the human genotype that is branded successful and is passed on to further generations to create a better and more thriving species. These new and improved life forms all arose from mutations. Mutations are the base of evolution. When a mutation occurs it can either be seen as desirable or undesirable. If desirable, the mutated trait will remain in the population and will eventually be passed on to further generations, if the trait is characterized as undesirable it is likely that it will die out and preferably not be passed on. Although undesirable traits are selected against, it is not uncommon to come across some even in todays modern world. Human beings …show more content…

Dwarfism usually results from a random genetic mutation, either paternally or maternally (Mayo Clinic Staff 2014). These mutations can be passed on and stay dormant for generations and erupt spontaneously or they could occur right at the moment of conception without any previous insult. The most common form of dwarfism is known as Achondroplasia. According to research done by WA Horton and colleagues, Achondroplasia is a form of disproportionate dwarfism that affects more than 250,000 individuals globally. This type of dwarfism is caused by a point mutation in the gene for fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 (FGFR3). This mutation is present before birth and affects the growth plates in fetal skeletons resulting in shorter than average limbs (Horton
