In the article “Fitness Culture: A Growing Trend in America by Sheila McClain, it speaks in detail why American have increased their interest in health and fitness. Sheila conducts a comprehensive research of the subject and provides strong statics and information from others. Since sports and athletics have been brought into our society it has always been gender specific. For example, it is seen that males should be playing the rough and tough sports or athletics such as rugby and football, whereas the women should be participating in less competitive sports and athletics such as swimming, or running. Can you imagine that the world population of women is around forty-nine percent and they still aren’t given the same opportunities or respect as men? Being a women in the twenty-first century playing one of those “non-traditional” sports is a tough task for these women. The women who choose to do so are usually questioned about their sexuality and
The emphasis on and portrayal of athletes with a specific body type subordinates both men and women that do not possess that physique.
The only exercise this generation is getting is for their thumbs. It is said that they scroll miles with their thumbs. Today’s teens feel that their lives are based around their phones and technology. They are too busy looking at nature on their phones, then to actually go out and experience it. If teens stay on their phones they will suffer the consequences of failing relationships, loss of wildlife habitats, and the growth of endangered or extinct species.
Many people are spending their leisure times behind computers and tablets than they are being physically productive. Although, most of the new technologies have had many benefits to the advancements in the way in which we function efficiently in the world today; it also has contributed to the sedentary lifestyles for many adults and children. A world before technology, included children playing activities outside and adults engaging in these activities with their children. Technology should be limited to ensure that we are all getting an adequate amount of social interaction, that children are being properly educated and to help reduce the continuing growth of obesity in America.
In a recent study, 403 participants were first asked to answer a short questionnaire regarding their gender, age, and physical exercise habits. They then completed a questionnaire regarding perceived characteristics of a sport. In this latter questionnaire, the respondent was asked to rate to what degree the descriptor is characteristic of the sport or those practicing the sport using a seven-point scale from 1 (“Not at all characteristic of the sport/sport participant”) to 7 (“Very much characteristic of the sport/sport participant”). For each participant, the sport to be rated was randomly selected out of 41 different sports, 19 of which had been previously labeled gender-neutral, 7 of which ha...
Community colleges are, historically, known for servicing the more non-traditional population, such as adults who work full-time and individuals seeking fast-paced trade-skills, a successful enterprise (AACC, 2013). In a community college setting located within the Southern Region of Texas, there is an opportunity to study the social expectations and educational needs of Generation Z relative to their college experience compared to other identified groups of students enrolled in the institution. Generation Z accounts for less than 20% of the community college full-time enrollment (AACC, 2013). According to the Daily Nation (2016), they are described as independent, stubborn, pragmatic and always in a rush, Generation Z will challenge Community
In our society today one of the most difficult problems we are facing is the large numbers of obesity in our children. One of the major factors in that is this; our children have become less physically active. At an early age children start watching TV, learn how to operate a computer, and play video games. Having technological skills is now a necessity in all of our lives because everything has turned “computerized,” but the fact is that our children are relying on these types of entertainment rather than getting up and physically exercising to entertain them selves. This directly affects the large number of obese children in our country today because of the lack of physical exercise. It is not that we want our kids to look a certain way or to be better at sports than everyone else, but it is that we want our kids to be physically fit and to develop a healthy lifestyle. Physical exercise is not only for adults, it is for children as well, so we must understand the importance of our children exercising and the benefits from it. By doing that it will make an impact on that child for the rest of his/her life.
Exercises are important activities for people who want to achieve healthy lives. Imagine that John, a person who loved to play tennis. He played tennis every morning before he went to work. However, one day, it rained hard outside and he couldn’t play his favorite sport anymore. He was so sad and depressed. Luckily, he remembered that he had a Wii--a video game console-- that could help him to play tennis with online people inside his house. It’s a big thank to the video game industry, now people can play sports any time they want inside their houses. Not only tennis, there is a ton of exercise game for people to choose: dancing games, yoga games, footballs game, fitness games to name a few. More than that, the video game industry is trying to create new exercise games that are more and more realistic so that people can burn the same amount of calories as they do actual sports when they play video games. In additions, for the first time in century, everyone can actually play sports and compete with people around the worlds inside their small houses. Exercising is more fun than ever before. ESPN channel actually broadcasts video games as normal sports. People can also learn about healthy foods when they play cooking video games. For an example, Cooking Academy, a game where players will play as a chef and learn to cook more than fifty recipes. Players will fry, chop, flip, mash, and more while answering
“Do you even lift bro?” has become the new slang phrase in this period where fitness has become a popular trend across the globe. It has become apparent that fitness, for the most part, dominates many aspects of social media – from infomercials on the best workout videos to the plethora of “how to” fitness videos on YouTube. However, the cause of this fitness boom has been debated for quite some time. Many people assume that the rise in fitness occurred because of its correlation to longevity, but I believe that fitness became popularized through social media. Through the help of celebrity-athletes and the advancement of social media outlets, the public’s perception of fitness (mainly aesthetics) changed from being only for the select few to the obtainable goal of the average citizen.
Fitness was at a peak until the 1990s. When television and computers became ultimate entertainment, children during this...
There are many generations in society such as Traditionalist, Baby Boomer, Generation X, Y, and Z. Generation Z is the youngest generation in the list. However, in any work place, Generation Y, which is known as an Echo Boomers or Millenniums, is the youngest. No one knows how it emerged, but it began in 1998 and ended in 2006. The people in this era were born between 1977 and 1994, which is my generation. In the United States, there are seventy one million Generation Y-ers, which takes up the largest part of population. Unlike other generations, Generation Y has very outstanding abilities and environments to success. Those abilities and characteristics are efficient in business and companies. Also, Generation Y’s remarkable characteristics affect their social lives a lot. The Generation Y is very family centric, and able to catch up the trends. Their general cultures are pop-music, iPods, social websites, like Facebook and Twitter, and anything that relates to technology. In principle, Generation Y-ers are optimistic, social, and have high self-esteem. Those characteristics bring many pros and cons to hire them. Pros are general mostly, but cons are not true mostly because of misconceptions.
Everyone sees the future in a different way; some see greater technological advances while others might see a more peaceful mankind. This indecisiveness leads to the ongoing debate as to whether or not this generation, Generation Y, has a role in America’s future. Considering our teenagers and children are the adults of tomorrow, I would argue that, in fact, they do have an impact. Every new generation has a role in the future of our country, as they fill the gaps of other people that can’t work anymore or have passed away. It just becomes a matter of how we use this power to impact society. Although the generation is very capable of producing great leaders, politicians, and a hands-on community, we cannot predict how those will choose to fill the gaps.
Generation Z is determined to change the future and is at an advantage over all previous generations to do so. This group is those born between the years 1995 and 2012, whom are currently ages 4 to 21. Statistics show Gen Z is extremely mature for their age with the lowest levels of drug use, alcohol consumption, smoking, and teenage pregnancy in decades, as stated by JWTIntelligence. This demonstrates that they are future orientated. Generation Z is unified, diverse, realistic, and technologically advanced, making them the generation with the power to impact the world.
