Gender and Communication
There are various differences between the communication styles of men and women. However, the biggest difference comes down to the fact that the purpose of conversation for men is different from women. According to academic research on gender differences from a psychological perspective depicts that when women use the tool of communication for enhancing their connections in social dimensions and for creating relationships; men however, apply language for exerting their dominance and achieving outcomes tangibly. Overall, women have more expressions, are pretty tentative in nature and use the conversation in polite way but men are assertive and have a hunger for power (Chalkey 2012 p.59). There is a difference between Men and women especially with their existence in society as women look forward to be socially interactive in nature while men have more value on independence. There have been however, other popular works such as John Gray and Deborah Tannen showing that men have a view to fall into conversations in order to establish their status and maintain it for attaining relationships whereas the purpose of women behind conversation is with regard to intimate bond creation and fostering with the help of displaying their issues that they are faced
According to Chalkley (2012, p.58) the authors have mentioned clearly that there is a difference between communications styles with regard to men and women. It is clearly depicted that social dominance is indulged by women and that is why they communicate bringing in expression and polite language together. Thus it can be said that the message that has to be communicated is driven by the written statement which, as discussed earlier, isn’t quite visible in the advertisement background. It is quite important to note that in the message the numeric figure and ‘UK’ has been highlighted whereas the real message i.e. second hand smoke hospitalises children has gone in the background. Thus proper placement and structure of this text is quite important.
