It should not have been this difficult to get this far into the semester something was different this year. Looking out the round window at the front of their apartment, as usual, the sun had not yet fully come up from behind the smouldering grey clouds; but she could feel it moving around to her corner of the Earth. Gemma lived up North in a small and somewhat odd town many hours away from any other community. Gemma and her Mother moved from the city to live with her Mother's most recent of boyfriends. Everything about Gemma appeared different in comparison to the other kids she went to school with especially now in this new town.
Overly aware of the clock, Gemma swiftly organized her thick, but pale bold hair into a knot on top of her head, her school bus would be at her door in moments. Exhaling a long breath of exasperation toward the image that met her in the mirror, Gemma touched her face. Hundreds of freckles kiss the face of the girl who stares back at her.
