Gay marriage should be legal worldwide. Gay marriage or same-sex marriage is when a man and man or women and a woman get married. Same-sex marriage impacts society in different types of ways, some people are affected by it because they think it is against the bible, others seem to have no impact or problem with same-sex marriage. However for the gay community it affects them, because in some states they are not allowed to marry the one they are in love with it. Also it impacts them because there are groups of people against same-sex marriage and the gay community is constantly being judged by people opposed to same-sex marriage.
Gay marriage is incompatible with the beliefs of several Christian. Marriage is the joining of a man and a woman, who loves one another and wants to spend the rest of their lives together. It is not the joining of two women or two men and I do not believe the society our or U.S. government redefine the true meaning of marriage. I am against same sex marriage because of the following several reasons. Gay marriages are unacceptable in my opinion because it goes against God’s words.
The concept that marriage should only be between a man and a woman does not seem to have any logical defense. There are some people that think same-sex marriage should not be allowed because they and others voted against it, although many other states and countries allow it. Others think that gay couples inability to create is cause enough to prevent their marriage, although even if they did affect the rate of population growth they may very well prevent many problems involved with the environment. A third argument is that it would complicate laws involving marriage, even though marriage has been altered over the years and changing the definition would only involve changing a few words in laws.
Religion also leads the way as a strong argument towards gay marriage with many people believing that it’s against their religion. Opponents to gay marriage with strong religious beliefs believe that gay marriage is “sinful” with marriage also being a religious intuition for only man and woman. Despite this, to legally marry someone there is no requirement for a religious ceremony to be held; this proves that marriage i... ... middle of paper ... ...myself who has friends and family who are gay or lesbian I find it immensely aggravating that they are seen by some people around the world as wrong to experience the opportunities the rest of us are giving in life such as being married and eventually having children. Religion is a major factor towards opponents being against gay marriage however so many other life choices people make in life happens against peoples religious views so why is gay marriage seemed so unacceptable. There are also many other arguments people make towards gay marriage despite this there is very little evidence to prove what these opponents are saying making most of it very unjust able and at points homophobic.
In society today, beliefs and views of marriage have increasingly developed different ideas. Homosexual relationships are gaining acceptance in our society. However, these couples are not allowed to marry, for many reasons. It cannot be demonstrated in which, if legalizing gay marriage would harm society, or may even benefit us. Individuals who are in fact gay seem to be gaining more of an acceptance.
Gay marriage and rights didn’t become a main focus for attention until the late 90’s and early 2000’s. In fact throughout the twentieth century it was illegal for two people originating from the same sexual orientation to speak or proceed with sexual acts together (Eskridge). Gay couples began requesting marriage licenses and the states in which they resided had no choice but to react. Most of the states amended their constitutions and laws to be against gay marriage, and that is where the battle began (Rauch). People began to become paranoid about gay people because of the strict laws that America had put in place against them.
On a common sense level, does American citizens really think that if gay marriage is not allowed, that the gay citizens are going to stop/change their way of life? But of course those who oppose giving citizens their freedom, really have no supporting facts to throw into the argument besides the religious ones. Yet, how do we know for sure that the religious reasons are even factual? Yes, it says so in the bible, whose bible? To my knowledge, as stated above, I wasn’t aware that America had a religion that everyone abided to.
Fortunately, our country is not a theocracy and public policy should not be based on any religion's values. If a person's religious convictions cause them to believe that gay marriage is wrong, that is personal to them, and that viewpoint should not be thrust onto others. Another argument against gay marriage is that it is seen as destroying the family. Some hold that the family is an immutable institution, but we have seen that the concept of the family is fluid, not static. Divorce used to be illegal in this country, now about half of marriages end in divorce.
Some think same sex marriage is right; however, others disagree. People in America have been fighting over same sex marriage for many years. However, same sex marriage is wrong in several ways. One way it is wrong is because there is now a law stating that same sex marriage is legal. Not only is gay marriage wrong, it is not appealing to the eye.
How can denying two people of the same sex the right to have a marriage be considered constitutional? Why is our country taking away rights of people because they want to be with someone of the same gender? Gay and lesbian couples have been denied their right to marry for some time now. Same-sex couples should be allowed to express and celebrate their commitment to a partner the same way a heterosexual couple does, as well as obtain the same benefits. Our country is not a Theocracy, we have separation of church and state, therefore the government cannot press biblical or church will on citizens.
