Gay Marriage: Should It Be Legalized?

Marriage is an important part of life since the Biblical times. For most it normally consists of the union of a man and a woman, but for gays and lesbians, it is the union of two men and two women. Legalizing gay marriage is an issue that has been contested for many reasons. We can contend that gay marriage is a bad idea for the sake of procreation, because the consequences far outweigh the benefits, or we can concede that the emotional stigma that is attached to it will make it difficult for children to *****Therefore it is a difficult issue for society to accept. and a fight for acceptance and freedom to practice gay marriage openly First of all, there are many reasons that are given to refute why gay and lesbian marriages should be a part of our society. Marriage in this country is defined as the union between a man and a woman, but over the past couple of years there has been much controversy over the true meaning of marriage. For the vast majority of professing Christians today believe that the Bible teaches that monogamy is the only acceptable form of marriage and that gay marriage violates God's law concerning marriage. According to Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, in July 2003, the Vatican stated, “There is absolutely no grounds for considering homosexual unions to be in any way similar or even remotely analogous to God’s plan for marriage and family… Marriage is holy, while homosexual acts go against the natural moral law”. (Wolfson, 106). Some can argue that the acceptance of gay marriage goes against their religious beliefs and moral judgment. Although most people try to live by and adhere to the morals they were brought up with, others try to push the envelope for change by using the word freedom to initiate cha... ... middle of paper ... ...n are another very important reason that gay marriages should not be legalized. “Mothers and fathers parent differently, and this difference provides important diversity in experiences for children”.
