Both sides of the controversy are assertive. Those in favor of gay marriage believe that the traditional definition of marriage has changed over time. It is also said that gay marriage is protected by the U.S. Constitution. Gay marriage is said to bring financial gain to the federal and state governments. Lastly, supporters of gay marriage believe gay couples make good parents. But what about those individuals who disagree with gay marriage. They strongly believe in the traditional definition of marriage between a man and a woman. In regards to the law, marriage is a privilege not a right. The anti-gay marriage group believes that people should not have their tax dollars used on something they don’t agree on. And lastly the non-supporters argue
Legalizing gay marriage has been a controversial topic in the past few years. In my opinion, gay people should be allowed to get married because it is a civil right. It shouldn 't matter what gender they prefer because they 're still regular people. Making gay marriage illegal, is the same as taking away someone 's freedom and civil rights. That is unethical and completely awful. There 's no harm being done by letting two people who are in love with each other get married. However, many religious fundamentalists are against this and believe gay marriage is wrong and needs to be stopped. Homosexual couples should have the right to get married because it 's a civil right and their sexual preference doesn 't make them any less human.

Homosexuality has existed since the beginning of time, there wasn’t an actual name for it, but surely, sexual acts between two individuals of the same sex still occurred. Homosexuality, homoeroticism, bisexuality, polygamism and even just questioning these ideas were often looked down upon. I say this because in a biblical sense, it was believed that only a man and a woman should come together. Most Christians and Jews believe that in the beginning of creation, God created Adam and Eve to multiply the earth. So going against God’s will and engaging in sexual activity with someone of the same sex was mostly looked down upon. There are people who are in no way religious who believe that homosexuality is wrong because they believe that it’s more likely to spread STD’s, some people may just had a bad experience involving a homosexual or homosexuals, and some believe that it’s goes against the “natural law”. People believe that it goes against the “natural law” because they believe that two people should be able to reproduce so that the human race can thrive. But since two men, and two women can’t reproduce with each other, it goes against that “law”.

Homosexuals have been denied many of the rights given to those that are heterosexual. Same-sex couples are not able to receive other benefits as a heterosexual couple would. The lack of benefits is extremely unequal and unfair. This unacceptable treatment is unconstitutional and should not continue.
Opponents of same-sex marriage have about as many reasons to not allow gay marriage as supporters have to allow it. One reason people don't want gays getting married is because in most religions, it is a sin to be attracted to the same gender, and completely unspeakable to marry them. Even though there are religious thoughts about gay marriage and homosexuality, people are getting that information from books that were written millions of years ago and they are not even sure of who wrote them. Even though people are ultimately afraid of the unknown and change, both, which are included in legalizing gay marriage. I believe that people should brush up on their knowledge of homosexuality, gay marriage, and what gay marriage would do to our society before they make create an opinion about the matter; which could ultimately affect the opinion of people around them. I also believe that love is love no matter what way you think of it, we are all humans who just want the same rights for everyone. Imagine if you were in a gay persons shoes, would you think the same way about gay marriage?

The LGBTQ community is for people who can be themselves and not get judged just because of the sex they like. All around the world many gay’s have been mistreated and killed. Homosexuality has been around for many years although they think what the gay’s are doing is wrong.It’s not fair for only one sexuality to be seen as “good” or “holy” and the other is “nasty”. There are many people who don’t believe in gays much less them being parents. Just because your gay you don’t need to fight for the rights to love your child. Now it’s time to stand up and get them the equal right they deserve.

Firstly, a major controversy is that not all gays and homosexuals support the passing of gay marriage. Some gays realize that the institution of marriage is more that a love between two people (Rosnick).
The people who oppose same sex marriage or also known as gay marriage are mostly conservatives. The republicans for the most part oppose gay marriage and want to make it unconstitutional. Their major point to declaring gay marriage unconstitutional is that a marriage is only between a man and a woman. The conservatives believe gay marriage will change the foundation of society and that people would not be able to adapt to the new norms. If gay marriage is legalized it brings to the next dilemma of adoption of children. Republicans believe that if married gay couples adopt children it would led to children seeing gay marriage as normal and would change society as we know it. The church too is strictly against gay marriage. Their argument is simple, marriage is between a man and woman. Some priests believe gay marriage is an act controlled by the devil itself and consider it to be a sin. While liberals have other points that makes this debate complicated.
There are many opponents of gay people as it is, and they all have their reasons to dislike the idea of permitting them get married. One of the main reasons is that the primary purpose of marriage is procreation. Because gay couples are unable to have children, they should not be allowed to marry (Schiffen 495). Another main argument is that the word marriage means the union of one man and one woman. This is a long-standing theme of most major Western religions. Under a proposed bill known as the Defense of Marriage act, marriage is defined as “a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife.” Furthermore, it defines a spouse as “ a person of the opposite sex who is a husband or wife” (What 1). Under these guidelines, it is quite obvious that gay couples would not be eligible for marriage. People against homosexual marriage also say that it is a person’s choice to be gay. Since the individual chooses to be a homosexual, they should not be given special privileges. Another argument that you hear is that these couples should not get married simply because of the torment and ridicule they would be faced with in their everyday lives. There are news reports from across America telling about how a gay person was beaten or killed just because they were looked at as different. Some of these people would end up the target of verbal abuse and maybe even physical abuse, just because some heterosexual people see them as different.
Marriage is just one way for two people to show their love for another. Whether it is two men, two women, or a man and a woman, love is love. People against gay marriage do not have the right to deny people of showing their love for one another. Everyone deserves the same rights as Americans and also just as people. The United States of America promotes freedom, liberty, and justice for all people. Same-sex couples are many times not included when it comes to marriage rights.
