Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Discrimination
Discriminating against LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) and its consequences is something that people maybe never seriously think about, although many people get affected by it. The show, “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” elaborates on the issue of LGBT discrimination. The Equality Act of 2015 is a bill passed by the House of Representatives and Senate, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, gender, identity, and sexual orientation, and for other purposes. Yet, this does not guarantee the equality of gay people because it is still legal to discriminate against gay people in many states. There is a huge problem with the people that are taught about gender in this society. In our early childhood we are taught there is only two genders, which has no room for transgender or gay or lesbian. People around the world has formed transphobia :an irrational fear and hatred for trans people. It has to see people “being started at, insulted, harassed, attacked, beaten, raped, and murdered” for being LGBT. It crushes my heart when I hear that someone refused to treat a small child just her parents are gay. As parents, neighbors, coworkers, friends and as a nation that we can’t discriminate and oppress people based on their sexual orientation and gender identity. If we do not support for LGBT equal rights now, eventually there will come a time when our rights will be denied too, and we will be putting a certain category and people will discriminate against us.
