Concept 1 Gary Thomas states that Christianity is not about being obedient. Rather, Christianity is about being in an intimate relationship with God and out of love, the obedience will follow. Some believe that prayer is what we do if we want God to intercede on our behalf, and other believe that pray is discipline of the faith that should be done in the community. Are the different views about pray just the different doctrines of the different denominations?

Insight 1 Thomas states that there are different types of contemplatives. Different types of prayer, secret acts of devotion, and realigning ourselves to the will of God. I like how Thomas brings attention to the different types of prayer and the prayer is communication with God. you talk to people that are close to you. Verbal communication is one of the ways that people show their friendships to others. So, why would we not have a conversation with the God that want to have an intimate relationship with us.
I also like the secret acts of devotion. If we do an act the blesses someone else and no one knows who did the act, then I think it gives more genuine worship to God. I think it brings Glory to God in two ways. I “doer” of the act does an act the is done anonymous and therefore the it directly brings Glory to God and the “receiver” of the act is not as distracted by the person that did the act, but can focus on giving God his due glory.
