This paper will seek to discuss the unethical significance of gambling in sports. According to the Webster dictionary gambling is the activity or practice of playing at a game of chance for money or other stakes. In the sport industry many athletes are betting on one another the spread, opponents, and spectators are doing the same. It is safe to say that gambling has changed the way sport is being played and has affected the industry in unethical ways. Gambling in sports has resulted in debt, death, and addiction amongst athletes and non-athletes.

For example, Charles Barkely has confessed that he has a gambling addiction and how he had betted on the super bowl winning 700,000 and later on losing 2.5 million dollars in just 6 hours. Barkley admitted to ESPN that he has lost nearly 10 million due to his gambling problem. In addition, to Barkely admitting his gambling problem he later on stated “I stop gambling temporarily, I don’t need to quit because unlike some people I can afford to gamble”. Charles Barkley is the perfect example that some people specifically athletes believe that they could gamble because they have the money to pay off the debt. In reality that is not certain because the rush and addiction of winning has caused athletes to bet more and more which has resulted into them losing more than they have won. There were drug dealers betting on a little league team in Palm Beach, Florida. There were hidden camera recording two man exchanging money after a game. The athlete would get paid for a great play and his parent will get paid also from the original guy who betted on the kid. Sources says that this has been going on for years in the little league sport events. This is a big deal because a lot of pressure is being put on those seven and six years old and the stakes are high the amount that is being gambled between the men ranges from 10,000 to 75,000. “Gamblers study kids, and they find the good players whose dads are in prison and whose moms are barely making ends meet to put food on the table for their children”.
