Several knocks resounded through the small office followed by Anna's voice. “Elsa?” What could it be now? This was about the fourth intrusion today while the Queen sat buried behind papers. She had enough work to get done even without Anna bursting in every half hour or so. Documents had to be signed, trade agreements had to be made, and laws had to be passed or revoked all decided by the Queen. Resting her head on fingers, Elsa felt the pulsating headache that came with the privileges as the ruler of Arendelle. Elsa was about to reach her breaking point when she heard another knock come from the door. She could say no. She could tell Anna to go away. But Elsa knew that she did not have it in her to shut Anna out like this. “Come in,” the phrase still sounded foreign to Elsa. The Queen's frustrations melted upon seeing Anna, remembering everything her sister did for her. She climbed a mountain, faced a snow beast, sacrificed herself, and even believed in Elsa when the she did not even believe herself. Anna also loved her sister dearly. There was no question, and Elsa loved her immensely as well. Anna held something behind her back, but frowned when she noticed Elsa's posture. “Is this a bad time?” The princess asked. “No,” Elsa straightened in her chair, placing her hands in her lap. “No, I just have a slight headache.” “Would you like to make some tea?” “That would be perfect.” Elsa smiled as she stood and walked over to Anna. She cocked her head over her sister's shoulder to see what was behind Anna's back. “So what do you have there? “First and foremost, we have a problem within the kingdom.”Anna walked backwards out of Elsa's office, beckoning for the Queen to follow. Elsa rolled her eyes before walking out as... ... middle of paper ... ...ndition.” “What?” “I get to decide what we do first.” “Deal,” Anna grabbed Elsa's hand and shook it vigorously; the princess radiated enthusiasm. “Gerda, would you fetch me some ink and a pen?” Elsa asked. “Certainly, your Majesty,” Gerda left the room and came back with the writing utensil and a glass container filled with the black liquid. She set it beside the Queen as Anna thrust the paper in front of her. Elsa signed and dated the document in her neat penmanship and Anna hastily signed it as well. “When do we start?” The Queen asked. “Right now!” Anna sprang up from the table and dashed out of the room. She popped her head back in the kitchen when she noticed that Elsa wasn't following her. “Are you coming?” “I need to finish my tea, Anna.” The Queen stated simply. Anna groaned from the doorway, and Elsa giggled as she brought the cup to her lips.

Frozen goes against every classic Disney princess movie direction, even making fun of the past movies through indirect jokes (Davis). For example, when being introduced to Hans, Anna’s first love interest, Elsa exclaims, “you can’t marry a man you just met.” Elsa is just preaching out realistic values to Anna, but also hinting a subtle joke about the other princess movies because they in fact marry one another right away. One main difference among Frozen and previous Disney Princess films is the fact that there are two female lead characters present, Queen Elsa and Princess Anna. Although there are male characters, the story of Frozen move around personal experiences of Elsa and Anna. They are seen building snowmen and playing together like one might expect from any normal sister duo. Anna and Elsa are depicted as carefree, innocent young girls who share a love for each other and an upbeat, carefree attitude towards life.
In the Kingdom of Arendelle, two young princess called Anna and Elsa were very close and used to play together daily. Princess Anna has the power of creating ice and freezing. One day, Elsa accidently hits Anna with her power while they are playing together and almost kills her. Their parents take them to trolls who save Anna’s life, but make her forget her sister’s power. After they go back to their castle, Elsa locks herself in her room from fear of hurting Anna with her power. Their parents die when their ship sinks in the ocean and three years later, Elsa opens again the gates of the castle because it is her coronations’ day. On Elsa’s coronation day, Anna meets prince Hans and she decides to marry him and asks for Elsa’s bless. Elsa does not accept the marriage and gets angry, which makes her lose control over her power and freeze the whole kingdom of Arandelle. Elsa runs to the north mountain and Anna goes after her. While Anna is searching for her sister, she meets the snowman Olaf, the ice salesman Kristoff, and his reindeer Sven.

This shows the resentment towards Elsa’s power, which Elsa starts to feel about herself. She is only eight years old and she is already starting to doubt herself, with no help from her parents. Anna, who is five in this scene, and Elsa were best friends before that incident and Anna enjoyed Elsa’s powers. Anna encouraged Elsa to play with her that night and enjoyed the snow and ice Elsa created with her powers. Anna was, unknowingly, help Elsa learn to control her powers and helping her gain confidence over this difference that is already isolating her. It’s the parents that harm Elsa’s growth by shutting Elsa in her room, away from the kingdom, and away from her only supporter, Anna. Their parents move Elsa from the shared room between the sisters, to a new room, all by herself. A line that resonates with me is when young Anna sings “We used to be best buddies and now we’re not. I wish you would tell me why” (Del Vecho, Buck & Lee, Frozen). The sisters would do everything together, but in order to keep both of them “safe”, their parents separate them. After Anna is accidentally hit in the heart with ice by Elsa, her whole body begins to freeze and the only way to break the curse is by an act of “true love”. Immediately she assumes that she must kiss Prince Hans to break the spell, but when he revels his evil nature, Olaf explains to her that she is really in love with Kristoff and that she can kiss him to break the curse. In search for him, on one side of the ice she finds Elsa in danger with Prince Hans, and on the other she sees Kristoff. Instead of saving herself and having a “true loves kiss,” Anna decides to sacrifice herself to save Elsa from Hans’ sword. When she jumps in front of the weapon he whole body turns to ice but since she risked her life to save her sister because of the love she has for her, she unfroze.
