Secondly, friendship is a topic which is given insight upon throughout the novel in actuality and highlights key points of real world friendships. Notably, friendships can help you survive certain situations. For instance, in the novel, Hans and Erik’s friendship is arguably the reason why Max Vandenburg is alive. If they had not become friends Erik would not have accidentally saved Hans’s life; therefore Hans would not have owed Erik his life. Considering this, Max would have never come to live with the Hubermann’s when the rest of his family was presumably killed. This example allows the reader to see how making a bond between another person and yourself can benefit you or someone else. In this circumstance, their friendship leads to …show more content…
Finally, the novel shows that friendship can be more impactful than an intimate relationship in one’s life. For instance, this is shown in Liesel and Rudy’s friendship, where they show their love for each other through very simple and odd actions. To be specific, they often call each other obscene words as a form of affection. After Rudy’s death, Liesel has an outburst that shows the significance of their relationship. She says “‘Rudy… wake up… I love you’ [She kisses] her best friend… soft and true on his lips. He tastes like regret” (Zusak 535-536). This quotation shows the love that Liesel has for Rudy even though she doesn’t often show it. This allows the reader to gain the understanding that relationships do evolve and feelings of attraction can grow from a friendship. In summary, The Book Thief gives the reader important and insightful information about friendship and relationships, whether they are completely platonic or romantic in nature. These informing insights include: relationships can help people survive difficult situations, omitting information from a friend can help alleviate certain unfavourable situations such as death, and friendship can sometimes be the best form of …show more content…
Perseverance is shown through the actions of many characters. These actions include facing obstacles while trying to improve literacy skills, fighting to stay alive in a life or death situation, and surviving discrimination and oppression from a whole nation. Lessons about friendship are also shown through presenting that relationships can help one survive difficult circumstances, omitting information from a friend can help alleviate certain unfavourable situations such as death or punishment, and friendship can sometimes be the most uncomplicated form of love. Lastly, the novel shows contrasting views of power that occur throughout our world. These uses of power include using words in order to manipulate a group, literature having the power to impact one’s life and literature having the power to spread compelling ideas and influencing one’s ideology. This information is given in an interesting and lively way through the telling of a compelling story. The Book Thief shows that literature can give one crucial life lessons that many people will not learn from another
Liesel thinks of them as best friends until the day he dies and then she realizes how much she really loves him. Rudy has always loved Liesel from the day they met. Rudy saves Liesel’s book from the river and comes up asking for a kiss. He walks her to school for her first day and then they race home one day and tie. Their relationship evolves from strangers to friends to best friends. In the beginning of the story they do not realizes what good of friends they will
Suzak is saying that true friendship is shown through common interests, and friends would do anything for their friend no matter what it is. “The two of them gradually become friends due to the fact that neither of them was terribly interested in fighting. They preferred shooting rolling cigarettes to rolling in the snow and mud. They preferred shooting craps to shooting bullets. A firm friendship was built on gambling, smoking, and music, not to mention a shared desire for survival” (Zusak 175). Hans and Erik’s friendship grew through their share of common interests. All they wanted was to survive and go back home to their families. “It said, “Hubermann, sir.” The voice belonged to Erik Vandenburg. He obviously thought that today wasn’t the appropriate time for his friend to die” (Zusak 177). Erik Vandenburg saved Hans’ life by telling the sergeant that he had the best penmanship and should stay behind. So when Erik went into war that day he never came back meaning Hans survived. Which this shows a true friendship between Hans and Erik. “Now I think we are friends, this girl and me. On her birthday, it was she who gave a gift - to me” (Zusak 235). Max explains that he thinks that him and Liesel are becoming to be friends because instead of him giving her a gift on her birthday she gave him a gift. Liesel brought newspapers home for Max when what she saw one just to show that she cares

In Markus Zusak's novel, The Book Thief, a young girl named Liesel ventures through life in Nazi Germany. She is fascinated with reading, and she steals books throughout the novel before eventually writing her own. Liesel's passion for reading saves her life at the conclusion of the novel when the rest of her family and friends are killed during an air raid. Her story is narrated by Death, who is quite contrary to what one may imagine. The Book Thief illustrates that the full presentation of the character, not just their actions, has a tremendous impact on the way the character is percieved by readers.

As a final point, literature informs humanity about these types of topics proven in The Book Thief with friendship, courage and perseverance. It teaches the readers that friendship relies on trust between two people and mentally help a person to live a continuing life. It also demonstrates that with courage, people will overcome that fear of doing things they have never thought of doing, but will face the fear of the outcome. Further, with perseverance, anyone can feel like they can accomplish the impossible and thrive to be successful. Perhaps, since we humans educate ourselves mostly from literature. It is the only piece of advice we can take and learn our valuable lessons from.
The movie being analyzed is the Sandlot. The relationship between the two main characters is a friendship, which begins with one boy who is desperate for friends and another who is searching for The Sandlot’s last teammate. The friendship between Benny and Small’s is an accurate depiction of the development of friendship in real life. In the movie, Scotty Smalls (Smalls) moves to a new neighborhood. One of his new neighbors happens to be the best baseball player in the neighborhood, Benny, who eventually teaches Smalls how to catch and throw so that the team has a ninth player. What begins as filling a baseball position eventually leads to a strong bond between the two main characters. Throughout the summer, the team plays baseball, goes swimming, plays baseball, goes to the fair, and plays baseball. A dog known as “The Beast” lives behind the fence of The Sandlot. The Beast is said to have eaten every baseball and person that has ever been on the other side of that fence, so when the boys hit Small’s stepfather’s signed baseball over the fence, they have to come together to retrieve the baseball. In the movie The Sandlot, directed by David M. Evans, the development of the friendship between Scott Smalls and Benjamin Franklin Rodriguez is conveyed through their communication. The Sandlot shows the progression of a friendship and the importance of communication to help a friendship flourish.
Friendships can change the outcome of a novel. Depending on who the main character sides with and who that character makes friends with can change if the character overcomes their obstacles or not. Friendship and love is when people caring and helpful to each other. Also its when both help each other without their own intentions. In Peak by Roland Smith, Peak views love and friendship as being helpful and caring, but when he is forced to go with his father, and finds out people who are his supposedly his friends are only helping him for their own special intention, he has to rely on loyalty and trust to find the people that actually care and love him.
With examples of family, love and friendship, expresses the hope that through the healing power of words, the corruption and hate in the world can come to an end. Even though the style of writing is simple and direct, it does a good job conveying the different themes of the story, including the different conflicts between politics and religion, separation of families, death, etc. The power of words is shown as soon as Liesel learns how to read. Her will for prosperity and curiosity becomes more powerful with every word she learns.
“The silver friend knows your present and the gold friend knows all of your past dirt and glories. Once in a blue moon there is someone who knows it all, someone who knows and accepts you unconditionally, someone who is there for life.” This is a quote I read once in an article by Jill McCorkle. I wrote it down and posted on my wall. McCorkle’s description of a “gold friend” describes a friendship that I have with a group of girls who mean the world to me.
Most beautiful kindred of all of humans are the companionship. Without excitement, confusion, tangles and commitment life becomes a cake-walk if people have a hand of a friend to hold on. Can everyone imagine if there is no friendship in the world? Nobody will care about one another. Friends are the pillars of strength that give support and comfort in life "A hedge between keeps friendship green”. Friendship is the one of the medium that can build unity among community. As Woodrow Wilson, the 28th President of United States, once said, “Friendship is the only cement that will hold the world together”, I strongly agree to his statement because friendship teach to help one another, learn to accept each other and build trust and faith towards each other.
Friendship is the most wonderful relationship that anyone can have. Ideally a friend is a person who offers love and respect and will never leave or betray us. Friends can tell harsh truths when they must be told. There are four different types of friends: True friends, Convenient friends, Special interest friends, and historical friends. To have friendship is to have comfort. In times of crisis and depression, a friend is there to calm us and to help lift up our spirits.
