“A friend is one of the nicest things you can have, and one of the best things you can be.” - Winnie the Pooh. Friendship is one of the things that helps build you as a person. It shapes who you are, and potentially who you will be. Having friends can be crucial to both your mental health and your physical health, and it’s important to know how to maintain friendships and some of the key factors in doing so. Although friendship is loosely defined as “the state of being friends”, it is better termed in layers. The term ‘friendship’ is not only the state of being friends, but involves multiple complex qualities. Throughout this essay, I hope to explain three of the essential qualities (or “layers”) of maintaining friendships, including trust, respect, and kindness/understanding and why they …show more content…
“Respecting others is a silent way to express our feeling for them. It’s an unspoken way of communication which builds unshaken and strong relations between people respecting each other. When a person shows respect for someone, then it means that the person has some value for him.”₂. An example of respect would be talking out something you have different opinions about with someone, and not letting it have an impact on the way you think of them. If you were to be judgmental of them and allow their opinion to become harmful to your relationship or give disrespectful and inconsiderate feedback, it wouldn’t be respectful. Respect is important for both persons in a friendship to have because there is a balance of responsibility to hold each other up. It encourages you to be respectful not only pertaining to the friendship, but to yourself when making decisions pertaining to relationships in general. It also plays a vital role in communication. If a person feels comfortable communicating with you honestly, you know that you and your feedback are respected and
Proper respect for others begins by a person respecting their self. Respect is developed by expressing honor, leadership, value, and trust in a person. If everyone respects everyone someday, the world will become a seventh heaven. It is important to be respectful for safety, to abide by the law, because children are influenced by their elders’ actions, and because God says so. Motivation from peers can help a person realize there is always room to improve the level of respect a person exhibits. Respect was, is, and always will be a positive attribute for everyone to strive for in their lives.
Respect shows that one values another as an individual. It should be applied whether you are in the classroom, the playing field or at home. Respect is vital quality that I would habitually present as member of the Suzanne Cory High School Community.
‘’friend’’ mean? The person who keeps you grounded, the eyes needed when you can't see
Friendship has evolved into a whole new abstract that not everyone can understand. With the technological advancements that we humans rely on so much, friendship has morphed into digital pixels that are released throughout the internet, rather than a one on one physical interaction. Does this mean that man has now created a new flaw in social interaction? Well not really, in fact the digital and physical are connected in more ways than one may think.
There are different kinds of respect. There is the definition I was taught at school. The first day of 4th grade, the teacher would call on students to add to the class definition of “respect” on the whiteboard. It is treating others the way you want to be treated. It is being nice when others aren’t. It is sharing your pencil sharpener with your partner.
Respect is a positive feeling of strong feeling of pleasure and wonder or respect for a person or other things, and also specific actions and conduct representative of that respect.Respect can be a specific feeling of regard for the actual qualities of the one respected. It can also be conduct in peace with a specific ethic of respect. Respect can be both given and, received. Depending on a person's cultural reference frame, respect can be something that is earned. Respect is often thought of as earned or built over time. Often, continued caring interactions are needed to maintain or increase feelings of respect among people.
Respect is a word that often gets overlooked by many people. My top three things that I think respect mean, are treating objects with care when it is your own personal items or not, treating everyone the same regardless of gender, race, or looks, and verbally being nice to people whether its in person or not.
Most people go through life and always hear about the word respect, but they don’t know what it means. Respect is the esteem for or a sense of the worth or excellence of a person. There are things in life you need to hold in respect. Respect for yourself, respect for others, and respect for property. Respect is taught to people everywhere and it is even taught to them in their religions. Respect is the very aspect that keeps everything in your life.
What do you think the meaning of friendship is? Is it being loyal? Is it having someone to talk to? Or is it being nice to someone? I think frieendship mean when you connect with someone. Being loyal funny, trustworthy, genorous and being someone people can talk to are all good characteristics of being a good friend. Me personally have been in friendships with an without those characteristics. Some "friendships" are based on what people have like money and popularity. In those types of friendships you don't connect with each other it is always about them giving you what they have that you want. At the start of highschool I didnt know many people and I didnt have friends. When I started to cheerleading I met my now best friend. At the start
In life we come across many people. Some will hate us while others will adore us. The ones who hate us can be referred to as enemies and the ones who show us adoration are referred to as friends. There are three types of friends. They are the aquaintinces we make in school, the friends we loose as one grows, and best friends who may stray, but never too far away.
A friend is someone difficult to find. A friend is someone you can always count on when times are tough. The dictionary's definition of a good friend is a person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard. A good friend is there when you are struggling. For example, when a boy breaks your heart a good friend walks you through it and offers a shoulder to cry on. According to Bree Neff, a good friend is someone who is trustworthy, doesn't talk behind your back, listens to your problems, gives good advice and tries to lend humor along with his or her support. There are also bad friends, those who pretend to care and then turn around gossiping and starting drama. Good and bad friends are all around you, involved in your everyday life. To find good friends you should look for such traits as being kind, trustworthy, loyal and dependable.
We do not make friends because they are useful but the bond of friendship, once it grows stronger and stronger has a number of positive aspects. There are certain secrets that can only be shared with our friends only. When we are facing a difficult situation in our lives, only true friends come forward to help us overcome all the difficulties.
Friendships can bring us more happiness. We are easily affected by people around us, especially those who are close to us. When our friends are happy and energetic, we will feel happy and energetic as well. We can have fun meeting new friends via the introduction of my current friend, or the friends of my friends (Fowler & Christakis, 2009). Beth introduced me to her friends and so did I. We had a lot of fun hanging out with different groups of people. Friendships bring us happiness in three major ways: believing that we matter, capitalization, and meeting our psychological needs (Demir & Davidson, 2013). A good friendship may make us feel that we matter, and that there is someone who listen to and care us. Beth likes to listen to my opinions. She is very interested in Chinese culture. She always asks me questions about China, and she tries to learn how to use chopsticks from me. She makes me feel that my country is valued a lot to her, and my opinion is very important as well. This did make me happier and more confident. Capitalization is the increase in happiness due to positive events (Demir & Davidson, 2013). Having fun and exploring the world together with Beth is considered to be positive events to me. I am always eager to take adventures and go travelling, so does Beth. So whenever we have time, we will go on a trip together, which I like a lot. A Good friendship is always important to have our psychological
Out of all the things people have in common what is the one component that brings friends closer ? Laughter. Laughter is a drug you don’t have to physically take to feel good.Even though humor has no real health benefits and in some ways can be dangerous, a bond between friends can be created through laughter because humor is good psychologically and laughter unites people. There is a story I can recall about me and a friend, and it made us closer than anything else could. In that moment I felt as if I made a friend for life. Laughter is something that we share among others and can in ways be one of the best feelings in the world.
To me, the definition of friendship is a person whom one can trust. It is a bond one creates, that can last a lifetime and it consists of difficulties and many memories. A friend gets rid of the feeling of being lonely, and that person is always there in times of hardship or happiness. However, the important part of obtaining a long lasting friendship is to start an acquaintance and to make time to understand each other. It is not as easy as it sounds, and so the question is “how does a friendship begin?”
