A friend by definition is someone you know well and regard with affection and trust.
I am not a very outgoing person, and to be totally honest, I am very isolated from other human beings. Except for my family and people at school. I cannot say who I would like to have as friend. I never given much thought. Perhaps I like God to be my friend. He is not selfish and very forgiving. He knows the hearts, seeing you for you; the imperfections, the motives, the joys and virtues. I could say what qualities a friend should have. A friend is loyal, reliable, trustworthy, and loving.
The friend is loyal by sticking by you through good times and bad times. She would not gossip behind your back, spilling intimate details of your life. She would try to defend you and praise you. You can always rely o...
Webster defines friendship as the emotions or conduct of friends; the state of being friends. Growing up you realize that every relationship is tested throughout time and some make it through that time and others do not.
The three-strikes law continues to arouse controversial issues in the United States. In Oklahoma, the three-strikes law is on the path of reformation. The three-strikes law states that offenders third drug-related conviction results in a life sentence (Oklahoman Editorial Board 2015). The article, “Oklahoma three-strikes law an example of why more corrections reform is needed” discusses the financial benefits and of reforming this certain law and the increase discretion given to judges (Oklahoman Editorial Board 2015). One issue of the three-strikes law is that the law puts nonviolent offenders in prison for life in a disproportionate ratio to violent offenders. For instance, out of 54 female and male inmates only three committed a violent
For years fiery debates whether the driving age for teens should be sixteen or eighteen captured the nation. Sixteen year-olds have a legitimate argument for keeping the age where it stands, but statistics show that sixteen year olds are not responsible enough to drive, and that more practice is needed before anyone should get a driver’s license. However, from the looks of it, it seems that legislation is going to make the legal driving age eighteen.
In these states the three-strike laws are very affective. They take the pressure off the society to reform these persons that are affected by the three-strike models. These societies feel as though since these persons want to keep being convicted of the same felonies two or more times then they should be punishment because they don’t want to do better for themselves (Beres & Griffith, 1998). These three-strike models affect the inmates in a negative way. For example, in the state of California the law was passed and imposed a life sentence to just about any crime. More than half of the inmates are incarcerated on some nonviolent
The movie being analyzed is the Sandlot. The relationship between the two main characters is a friendship, which begins with one boy who is desperate for friends and another who is searching for The Sandlot’s last teammate. The friendship between Benny and Small’s is an accurate depiction of the development of friendship in real life. In the movie, Scotty Smalls (Smalls) moves to a new neighborhood. One of his new neighbors happens to be the best baseball player in the neighborhood, Benny, who eventually teaches Smalls how to catch and throw so that the team has a ninth player. What begins as filling a baseball position eventually leads to a strong bond between the two main characters. Throughout the summer, the team plays baseball, goes swimming, plays baseball, goes to the fair, and plays baseball. A dog known as “The Beast” lives behind the fence of The Sandlot. The Beast is said to have eaten every baseball and person that has ever been on the other side of that fence, so when the boys hit Small’s stepfather’s signed baseball over the fence, they have to come together to retrieve the baseball. In the movie The Sandlot, directed by David M. Evans, the development of the friendship between Scott Smalls and Benjamin Franklin Rodriguez is conveyed through their communication. The Sandlot shows the progression of a friendship and the importance of communication to help a friendship flourish.
Today, many teenagers work hard to obtain their license starting at age 15 by getting their permit. Many parents encourage their children to get their license and gain these privileges, however some encourage their kids to wait and many states agree. Driving age is commonly set at sixteen, but because of safety concerns, the idea of raising the driving age to eighteen is currently posed by state legislation. Increasing the driving age to eighteen is a smart decision because teenagers are seen as irresponsible, they are more likely to get into accidents, and teens can become easily distracted.
Some might say that younger drivers ages 16 to 17 are not responsible enough to drive and that the responsibility should be saved for adults. Another reason some might say that the minimum driving age should be raised is teens have not had enough experience yet, since they have had their permit for only 6 months . Lastly, someone might argue is that driving is a deadly everyday action and because teens get distracted easily that should not have this luxury. Though some may disagree with my point of view I know some very mature teens who are being responsible 16 year old
What is your definition of a true friend? Well, to me, a true friend is someone who understands you, accepts you for who you are, and is willing to do anything for you. While reading John Steinbeck’s classic, Of Mice and Men, George and Lennie maintain a true friendship despite all the ups and downs they encounter. After Lennie Small, a man as gigantic as a mammoth with a pea-sized brain, is caught touching a girl’s dress in the town of Weed, he and his best friend, an average migrant worker, George Milton, travel a strenuous journey to the town of Soledad and start working on a ranch. The young men come to realize that they have a true, brotherly bond and nothing can separate them.
“The silver friend knows your present and the gold friend knows all of your past dirt and glories. Once in a blue moon there is someone who knows it all, someone who knows and accepts you unconditionally, someone who is there for life.” This is a quote I read once in an article by Jill McCorkle. I wrote it down and posted on my wall. McCorkle’s description of a “gold friend” describes a friendship that I have with a group of girls who mean the world to me.
Friendship is an interpersonal relationship between two people that is mutually productive and can be characterized by mutual positive regard. Friendship should enhance the potential of each person involved and should only be productive. You must like each other in order to call it a friendship, and
It has been a very controversial topic over the past couple years, and people have varying opinions on it. Should the minimum driving age be raised or should it stay the same? Some people believe it should remain the same and let kids continue to get their permit at an early age and then being able to fully drive by age 18, but it should not. It is not safe for kids to be driving around by age 16, most can 't even handle simple responsibilities , so they should not be entrusted with driving on roads. This issue is constantly talked
A friend is someone difficult to find. A friend is someone you can always count on when times are tough. The dictionary's definition of a good friend is a person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard. A good friend is there when you are struggling. For example, when a boy breaks your heart a good friend walks you through it and offers a shoulder to cry on. According to Bree Neff, a good friend is someone who is trustworthy, doesn't talk behind your back, listens to your problems, gives good advice and tries to lend humor along with his or her support. There are also bad friends, those who pretend to care and then turn around gossiping and starting drama. Good and bad friends are all around you, involved in your everyday life. To find good friends you should look for such traits as being kind, trustworthy, loyal and dependable.
The second category of friends I call "social partners." This is because they are closer than acquaintances, but no where near as close as a true friend. Social partners are usually acquaintances who evolve into "guest friends" through increased extracurricular activities. You know their name, a little of what they like or dislike, a little of their family history, and usually have several things in common. As the saying
Today in the world you see how driving has become an everyday thing, everybody uses a car to get to the destination they need whether it’s their job or just to go out. Many out have their driver’s license, while other are just starting to learn how to drive to obtain their driver’s license. Everybody has always had an issue with what the right age should be to allow people to obtain their driver’s license and drive. While some people don’t argue with the age that teenagers should be allow to drive, others don’t agree on letting teenagers get their driver’s license at such young age. People had always had various good reasons on why the driving age should be adjusted or why it should left as it is. In my opinion and what I think is that for
How old is old enough to drive? Most would argue the legal driving age of sixteen seems appropriate for someone to begin taking the wheel, while others say that twenty-one is a more sufficient age. Even though raising or maintaining the driving age at sixteen contain both pros and cons, major facts need to come to consideration if the driving age ever increases. As a teenager driving, I believe that people wanting to raise the driving age do not realize the negative effect that that would cause. For instance, if the age increased, teenagers would lose independence and freedom, parents would have to sacrifice their time and freedom, and even though teenagers die in car crashes every year, it would not decrease the overall number of deaths per year.
