Hero What is a hero? A hero to me is someone who is walking along the street and sees a woman being mugged or being beaten on, and that person saves that woman from the danger. A hero is someone who loves and takes care of their family and is always there for them and even for the people who are not family. The greatest hero to me is an unseen hero: How heroes are portrayed today: How did heroes come to be today? What needs to be done today to return the old hero? A hero is someone who puts their life on the line for all the right reasons and doesn’t think twice before acting. The greatest hero to me is an unseen hero: Someone who acts immediately with no thought of action and does not claim reward for it. An unseen hero for sees when …show more content…
People who play the game for fun but may not get anywhere in life with it. The fans, like in the book “Friday Night Lights” are the people of Odessa Texas. They have taken the game way too far and they threaten the coach of the players and the players themselves. These are not heros in my eye. But people who put their lives on the line for protecting our Nation from corrupt people, even though it may be for the worst reasons, these are my heros. These people are putting their lives on the line for their family, friends and people that they love. Even for those they don’t know. These people are the military troops and all other divisions of the force. People used to watch and still possibly describe heros as military, and people who protect our Nation and the people in it, as quoted from George Orwell, “People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.” …show more content…
We have almost lost the the true hero with Chivalry and the love of your family. What we have left is the true family and the military. In the past we all cared for each other and supported each other. We slowly lost that as we moved up from the Greek to Present. It all starts with God and when He was punished and nailed on the cross to die for our sins. God is a hero to me because He died for us to forgive us and to create a better understanding of life for us and to provide a roadmap to life for us.. It has progressed from there as it had moved through Greek times. Greeks believed that family comes before all, and that you put yourself last. The Greeks had believed in the gods, and that they would protect them on their journey, but the the book “The Odyssey,” by Homer, Odysseus found that the gods had punished him for not worshiping them for helping him. Odysseus had found that to return back to his family he had to find the hero in himself for putting his family first and in his mind to take him home. That is a hero to me. Another example is the Anglo Saxon period after the Greek times. The Anglo Saxon’s had carried through the same thought and written tradition that you put glory for your king, glory for your ancestors, glory for your tribe or family, and finally and always at the bottom, was glory for yourself. In the book about the Anglo Saxon times, (“Beowulf”) Beowulf was the main character and he kept the thought in his mind that he would
Who is a hero? In contemporary times, usage of the term has become somewhat of a cliché. Over the years, the term “hero” has become representative of a wide variety of individuals, each possessing differing traits. Some of the answers put forth by my colleagues (during our in-class discussion on heroism) as to whom they consider heroes pointed to celebrities, athletes, teachers and family members. Although the occupations differed, each of their heroes bore qualities that my classmates perceived as extraordinary, whether morally or physically. Nonetheless, Webster’s defines “hero” as “a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities.” Thus, it is worth considering that individuals become heroes relative to the situation with which they’re faced.
A hero is someone who invests their time helping others rather than themselves. They are always conscious of their surroundings and environment. Heroes help their enemies and friends regardless of the circumstances. A hero is also someone who is humble and knows when to be protective of others and themselves. Heroes are people who acknowledge flaws, and fix mistakes, those were my own definition of a hero. In “Undocumented Immigrant”, Jose Antonio Vargas tells the truth about his illegal status in the United States. Not only was he an immigrant in the United States, he was his own hero. Vargas proved that he is a hero through code switching, bravery and honesty.
Heroes come in all shapes and sizes with many different capabilities, values and attributes. We see heroes every day; firefighters, police officers, and even one’s parents. Heroes have been around for a long time displaying similar skills and abilities, but as time has gone on heroes have started to present different values of their society. But what truly makes a hero? What values does the hero portray about society? Heroes such as Odysseus from Ancient Greece and Kyle Carpenter from our time help us better understand the traits of a true hero. Ancient Greek society valued pride, bravery and selfish behavior as shown by Odysseus. However, heroes today show more humility and selflessness as our society has changed from the Ancient Greek society.
What is a hero? When we think about a hero; what is the first thing that comes into our mind? To some a hero might be a legendary person or someone of great strength and ability. For example, a solider or someone admired for their amazing achievements. A hero is someone who can be calm during the saddest moments of their lives and someone who can change the world with their amazing courage, which can be seen from Betty Friedan, Steve Jobs and Bharat Bhattarai.
What is a hero? A hero can be classified as a number of things. A hero can be a person who in the opinions of others has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal. Ervin Staub, a holocaust survivor from Hungary and as scholar on altruistic behavior, has written, "Goodness like evil often begins in small steps. Heroes evolve; they aren't born. Very often the rescuers make only a small commitment at the start, to hide someone for a day or two. But once they had taken that step, they begin to see themselves differently, as someone who helps. What starts as mere willingness becomes intense involvement." The business man, Oskar Schindler, demonstrated a powerful example
What makes a hero? To me a hero is a person that does whatever is necessary to protect the people they’re serving or protecting. In the dictionary it says a hero is “a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.”
The definition and guidelines for using the term “hero” to describe a person can be as diverse as the land we live in, however, regardless of your cultural identity the shield of “hero” must be earned. It is defined as “a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities, is regarded as a model or ideal (Dictionary.com, 2014). In Classical Mythology, a hero is “a being of godlike prowess, a warrior of special strength, courage or ability” (Dictionary.com, 2014). This describes how we have portrayed our present day heroes, the pedestal that we put them on, after actions reflecting heroism, have been awarded the title. Difficult to earn, harder to retain, but forever remembered.
A hero is a man who is distinguished by exceptional courage, nobility. and strength to carry out tasks that involve great risks. A hero can also be a person who fights for other people to help or save them. from their fears and fears. He opposes the villain - a person who does wicked or intentionally harm others in some way, emotionally or otherwise.
Who is your hero? Many of us can clearly picture our idea of our personal hero in our head, but is the person you consider to be a hero really a hero by definition? In Heroism: Why Heroes are Important, Scott LaBarge, a Classics and Philosophy Professor at Santa Clara University, awakens your thoughts on the word heroism and how it has changed since its origins in ancient Greece. Throughout his essay, he goes in depth into the term ‘hero’ and compares it to society’s take on heroes today. Although LaBarge uses examples to back up his stance that “Today, it is much harder to detach the concept of heroism from morality (LaBarge. 1),” his essay contains flaws and he contradicts his own words.
In today's modern times we hear the word hero all of the time. The news media throws the term around as if it is an everyday word. What exactly is a hero? Who, or what, can be classified as heroic? The correct definition of the word hero is: One invested with heroic qualities in the opinions of others. That is a fine definition for books and intellectual minds. To the average person, however, a hero is much more.
In my opinion, a hero is someone whose principal purpose, whether it be in one situation or over the span of their entire life, is to help others while simultaneously making the world a better place. When the word hero is brought up, the most prevailing image that comes to mind is superheroes like Batman and Superman. But I don’t think you have to have superpowers or even be well known in order to be a hero. There are people all over the world whose intention is to do selfless deeds and go out of their way for others without expectation of obtaining anything in return. These are the type of people I like to consider everyday heroes. They go through life just trying to be the best they can and trying to help as many people as they can. Whether
what is a hero? A hero doesn't always have to be have to be a special individual saving another hopeful soul from a burning building, or being born as an extraordinary individual who has the powers to save lives. A hero could be anyone whose daily acts go unnoticed, and could never be heard. People spend their days doing these things without any notice the act of heroism. Heros can be anywhere without anyone noticing these simple jobs that they do to help others. Heroes can be blind to the human eye but can be notice by the simple acts of strength and selflessness inside them. Although some hero acts go unheard of, heroes can be selfless people, who take up the courage to fight for things bigger than oneself.
Heroes are made by the paths they choose, not the powers they are graced with.” -Brodi Ashton. This shines true but is overlooked in today's society . A hero in today's society clashes with the genuine meaning of hero. A hero is someone who is sacrificial, selfless, and modest. A hero is somebody who is bold and valiant and to a great degree dedicated to something. A hero is a selfless individual who puts and the needs of others before their without seeking any attention for fame. A heroic person is prepared to yield his/her life for society and for what is best for the people. These qualities are constant throughout time. They may change a little bit depending on the society's values. Some heroes throughout history are Odysseus, Stephen Kumalo,
A hero is a person who cedes to benefit others. Through many complications that were faced they stood up with the greatest bravery. Welles Crowther is a great example of a hero who sought to help the other people in the World Trade Center during 9/11. Though he could’ve saved himself he tried to save others. Though he lost his life he inspired others to help others in need. Ling Young says,”He said,”I’m going back up again.” Cause he knows that there were a lot of people still up there on the 78th floor that needed help (“The Man in the Red Bandana”). Though he could have saved
When one thinks of heroes, names such as Ghandi, Martin Luther King, and Mother Theresa often come to mind. These people had done a lot of favors, courage, helps, and more of things for the people who needed them. They have change the world. But, heroes can be in anyway, even in each of individuals in the world. I have the persons who I think is the best hero in my mind. They are my parents.
