Our fate lies in the hands of the things we love, and sometimes the things we love are the things are the things that lead us to the destruction of ourselves. Although there could be many people to blame the star crossed lovers death, Romeo and Juliet, Friar Lawrence is to blame for most. He made critical mistakes from giving Juliet the poison and the letter not getting to Romeo in time, to the Friar not making it to the tomb in time.

Friar Lawrence’s decision to give Juliet the poison was a bad idea from the start, since she was a 14 year old girl that wasn’t thinking straight. In act 2 scene 1, Friar Lawrence says “Hold on daughter, I see some hope. But we must act boldly because the situation is desperate...you’ll probably be willing to try something like death” (pg.215). In act 5 scene 2, Friar Lawrence says “Now i must go to the tomb alone, within three hours and he still didn’t make it to her tomb in time. This proves he had enough time to get to the tomb and tell Romeo everything. However in act 5 scene, Friar also states “But by the time i got here, just a few minutes before Juliet woke up, Paris and Romeo were already dead”(pg.283). This proves that he didn’t get there in time when he had 3 hours to go to the tomb and tell Romeo everything. In act 5 scene 3, Friar Lawrence says The watch is coming. Come, let’s go, good Juliet, I don’t dare stay any longer”(pg. 273). This proves he wasn’t even worried about Juliet and what she would do while she was unsupervised. Friar Lawrence was only worried about himself and whether or not he would get caught and he was not concerned about Juliet. When it comes down to it, Friar Lawrence did care for Romeo and Juliet at the beginning of the story but at the end of the day he was more concerned with whether or not he would get in
